Thermodynamic assessment of the Cu-V system was carried out using the CALPHAD method. The excess heat capacity of the liquid phase was taken into account in the model of its excess Gibbs free energy. Excess thermodynamic properties of limiting solid solutions were represented by regular solution models. A self-consistent set of thermodynamic parameters was obtained using data on the mixing enthalpy and information on the phase equilibria. The thermodynamic properties of the phases and the phase diagram along with its metastable extension were calculated using this set of parameters. The thermodynamic model of the system was used in order to predict the composition limits of formation of supersaturated solid solutions prepared by highly nonequilibrium methods of synthesis.

This work reviews and discusses the data and information on the thermodynamic properties of nickel available through May 1984. These properties include heat capacity, enthalpy, enthalpy of transition and melting, vapor pressure, and enthalpy of vaporization. The recommended values for heat capacity cover the temperature range from 1 to 3200 K. The recommended values for enthalpy, entropy, Gibbs energy function, and vapor pressure cover the temperature range from 298.15 to 3200 K.

Thermodynamic properties of nickel

: This publication is the first of a series on the intensive examination of low-temperature heat-capacity data of the literature to be issued in connection with the mission of the National Standard Reference Data System. The objective of this series of publications is to present critically evaluated tables of heat capacity and the derived thermodynamic properties between 0 and 300 degrees K to meet the needs of physical chemists, physicists, and engineers. In the investigation of chemical equilibria and thermodynamic properties the interest is most often at the higher temperatures (room temperature and above). The effect of small uncertainties in the evaluation of the heat capacities at the lowest temperatures (below about 50 degrees K) is usually less significant to these quantities.

Physical contributions to the heat capacity of nickel

The continuous adiabatic method described yields a graphical representation of the inverse specific heat as a function of temperature. The principal advantages are: simple construction high-level electrical signals, small samples (about 1 g), good behaviour through first-order transitions, low additional masses, low cost and complete automation.
