TCSC with auxiliary controls based voltage and reactive power controls on grid power system

This article proposes a fault location algorithm for double-circuit transmission lines compensated by a generalized unified power flow controller (GUPFC) in the phasor analysis domain. The suggested algorithm is able to locate the fault point in three stages at each circuit of a double-circuit line equipped with a GUPFC between two terminals. The first stage determines the faulty section with respect to the location of the GUPFC using the positive sequence voltages of two terminals of the line. In the second stage, the faulty circuit among the circuits of the double-circuit line is identified through analysis of sequence components of the line currents at the terminals. After determining the faulty section and faulty circuit of the line, the fault location is calculated at the third stage with high accuracy based on the analysis of synchronous current and voltage phasors that rule the circuitry equations in the GUPFC compensated double-circuit transmission line. Finally, the equations required for determining the fault location for 11 types of faults in these lines are presented based on the distributed parameter model of the line in sequence components considering the coupling between the two lines. The considered GUPFC, based on the detailed model method, is modeled along with the test network in MATLAB/Simulink. Moreover, the presented algorithm is programmed in MATLAB software for evaluation and test. The obtained simulation results verify the accurate performance of the presented algorithm under different fault conditions.

Fault Location in Double-Circuit Transmission Lines Compensated by Generalized Unified Power Flow Controller (GUPFC) Based on Synchronous Current and Voltage Phasors

Optimal allocation of multi-type FACTS controllers for total transfer capability enhancement using hybrid particle swarm optimization

A differential evolution (DE) tuned tilt integral derivative controller with filter (TIDF) has been implemented to a multi area reheat thermal power system for automatic generation control by taking the physical constraints like generation rate constraint and governor dead band nonlinearity. Initially, dissimilar integral controllers are considered in each area and the integral controller gains have been optimized by integral of time multiplied by absolute value of error (ITAE) criterion exploiting different strategies of DE algorithm. In next step, the control parameters such as step size and crossover probability of DE for the best strategy can be chosen with multiple iterations of the algorithm systematically for variation in each control parameter and DE proposes the control parameters. Further, PI/PID/TIDF type controller schemes have been modified and their gains have been optimized by optimal DE. Furthermore, to improve the transient system response, TIDF controller coordinated unified power flow controller (UPFC) has been investigated. The simulation results reveal that the minimum ITAE value is obtained when UPFC is placed in area-5 only. Finally, sensitivity analysis has been done by changing the operating load conditions along with the time constants of system parameters, from the simulation results it has been examined that there is no need to reset the controller parameters from their nominal setting for these variations. The proposed control scheme effectiveness is also observed by considering random step load disturbance and sinusoidal load disturbance.

Through the years there has been an increment in the huge amount of power transfers and third party approaches. Despite the fact, electric power transmission facilities throughout the world are not openly allowed to progress because of the different environmental, land-use and regulatory pressures that arise. As a result upholds in transmission, irregular facility usage, and undesirable parallel pathways or loop movements are being experienced. When there is an increase in power transfer the operating system becomes difficult to manage ultimately becomes complex. Because of this complexity the control on the system becomes weak and the power transfer can become insecure in case of huge power movements.
