Effect of different organic inputs with jeevamrut on yield, quality and soil properties in soybean-wheat cropping sequence

Research aimed to study the influence of organic and inorganic fertilizers on growth and yield of green bean ( Phaseolus vulgaris L.). It was conducted in Andisol soil, Batu, East Java, 900 m above sea level, 24-27⁰C for dry season (from May to July 2013) and rainy season (from January to March 2014). A randomized block design was used to arrange five treatments such as 1) no fertilizers applied; 2) five t ha-1 cow manure; 3) 10 t ha-1 cow manure; 4) 50 kg N ha-1, 150 kg P2O5 ha-1 and 50 kg K2O ha-1; and 5) 100 kg N ha-1, 300 kg P2O5 ha-1 and 100 kg K2O ha-1. All treatments of bean was planted in 4 x 3 m2 of plot size and 25 x 20 cm2 of plant spacing. Treatment of 100 kg N ha-1, 300 kg P2O5 ha-1 and 100 kg K2O ha-1 resulted in the highest growth (plant height, leaf number/plant, and leaf area/plant) and yield of pod fresh weight (12.46 t ha-1, in 2013; 16.51 t ha-1, in 2014). The lowest growth and yield was showed by no fertilizer application (6.23 t ha-1, in 2013; 8.36 t ha-1, in 2014).

The Influence of Organic and Inorganic Fertilizers on the Growth and Yield of Green Bean, Phaseolus vulgaris L. Grown in Dry and Rainy Season

A field experiment was carried out to study the effect of nutrient sources on soil fertility and cowpea productivity (Vigna unguiculata) at the Main Agricultural Research Station, Farm, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad. The experiment was laid out in spilt plot design with nutrient sources (organics, organics + chemical fertilizers and only chemical fertilizers) as main plot treatments and foliar spray (cow urine, DAP, panchagavya and water spray) as sub plot treatments. Further, a pot culture study was conducted in RCBD design to know the nutrients release pattern from different sources of nutrients under the study. Application of RDF + FYM @ 5t/ha significantly improved growth, yield attributing characters and seed yield (1122 kg/ha) in cowpea compared to integrated and 100% organics (716 kg/ha) accounting 32.3 and 19.89 percent respectively but at par with only RDF treatment. The uptake of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium was also significantly higher in RDF + FYM treatment which was on par with only RDF but superior to integrated and 100 per cent organic treatments. Among the foliar applications, DAP @ 2 percent produced 9.51 and 11.15 percent higher seed and haulm yield in cowpea than cow urine and control due to higher nutrient absorption. Organic manures either alone or in combinations improved soil physical (bulk density and water holding capacity) and chemical properties (organic carboncontent, available nutrients namely N,P K and S). Higher soil microbial populations ( N2-fixers and P-solubilizers) biomass carbon and nitrogen were also observed with organic treatments. The experimental results clearly showed that application of organic manures in combination with chemical fertilizers improved the soil fertility and cowpea productivity. The pot culture studies on nutrients release pattern as influenced by sources of nutrients supported the findings of field experimental studies.

EFFECT OF NUTRIENT SOURCES ON SOIL FERTILITY AND COWPEA (Vigna unguiculata L.) PRODUCTIVITY IN VERTISOL OF NORTHERN TRANSITION ZONE OF KARNATAKA

A field experiment was conducted in kharif 2011 on urdbean genotype T-9. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replication and thirteen treatments. Some microorganisms have capable to convert the insoluble phosphorous to an accessible form and increase the growth and yield attributes viz, plant height, number of branches plant-1, nodulation, dry matter accumulation plant -1, number of pods plant -1, test weight (g), grain yield, straw yield and biological yield (qha1) of Urdbean. All these characters were recorded higher in treatment T13 by application of (75 kg ha-1 P2O5 + PSB + Rhizobium.) as compared to all other treatments. However, combination of rhizobium, PSB and P levels had proved significant influence on plant growth, yield and its attributing traits in Blackgram.

Effect of Rhizobium, PSB and P-levels on Growth, Yield Attributes and Yield of Urdbean (Vigna mungo L.)

Optimum sowing time and a promising variety are of prime importance to harness potential yield of any crop. Pole frenchbean is cultivated as a potential off-season crop in north-western hilly areas where information on these important agronomic aspects is lacking. Keeping this in view, a field experiment was conducted for two consecutive years during June to September 2007 and 2008 by following split plot design with three replications. The 12 treatment combinations comprised of four dates of sowing at weekly interval starting from 1st June in main plot and three varieties namely Luxmi, SVM-1 and Kentucky Wonder in sub-plots. The early sowing on 1st June significantly resulted in higher seed yield with 23, 77 and 85% more increase over 8th June, 15th June and 22nd June, respectively in pooled years. Among the varieties, ‘SVM-1’ significantly out performed ‘Luxmi’ and ‘Kentucky Wonder’ for seed yield with a respective increase of 63 and 44% in pooled years and also performed better for pods/plant and straw yield. Interaction effects of sowing dates and varieties on the performance revealed that the seed yield of all the varieties, in general, decreased with each delay in sowing with more drastic reduction after 15th June. The cultivar ‘SVM-1’ performed significantly better on all four dates of sowings over ‘Luxmi’ and ‘Kentucky Wonder’ for number of pods/plant, seed yield and straw yield over the years. Hence, it can be concluded that early sowing on 1st June and the cultivar ‘SVM-1’ was the most ideal combination to obtain higher seed yield of pole frenchbean under sub-humid temperate environment.
