Observation of a magnetically controllable Jahn Teller distortion in dysprosium vanadate at low temperatures.
A.H. Cooke,C. J. Ellis,K. A. Gehring,M. J. M. Leask,D. M. Martin,B.M. Wanklyn,M.R. Wells,R. L. White +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, it was proposed that the distortion arises from a Jahn Teller splitting of an accidently degenerate pair of low lying Dy3+ doublets, which is correlated with the direction of principal g value and can be influenced by applied magnetic fields.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spectroscopic properties of dysprosium vanadate
TL;DR: In this paper, the ground state of Dy3+ in DyVO4 has been shown to be anisotropic, with ga = 19, gb ≤ 1, gc ≈ 0.5.
