A multiband phone capable of transmitting a signal within a plurality of distinct frequency bands having a single wide frequency range power detecting device capable of measuring the power of the transmitted signal over all of the plurality of frequency bands. The multiband phone includes multiple power amplifiers, where each power amplifier amplifies the power of a signal transmitted within a different frequency band. A power amplifier controller is provided for controlling the amount of amplification performed by the power amplifiers, where a switching device switches the connection of the power amplifier controller to a selected power amplifier. The single wide frequency range power detecting device is connected to the output of all of the power amplifiers through a switching device, where the switching device connects the power detecting device to the particular power amplifier selected for transmission. The power detector then measures the power of the signal transmitted and feeds the measured power back to the power amplifier controller. The power amplifier controller may then adjust the voltage driving the power amplifier connected thereto based upon any difference detected between the desired output power and the measured output power. The performance of the wide frequency range power detecting device is adjusted for the specific transmission frequencies utilized by the multiband phone in order to achieve optimal power detection sensivity over all of the multiple frequencies.

Wide frequency range couplers and detectors for power detection in multiple frequency band systems

This paper describes the design and performance of a three-bit monolithic phase shifter at V-band. The selected circuit approach was a reflection phase shifter with switched delay lines. Schottky diodes were used as the switching elements. Tested at 62.5 GHz, the RMS phase error was 2.7°, the insertion loss 10.8 +- 1.8 dB (including fixture loss), and the VSWR was better than 2.1:1. The maximum DC power requirement was 40 mW.

L'invention concerne un telephone multibande capable d'emettre un signal dans plusieurs bandes de frequences distinctes, et dote d'un dispositif de detection de puissance a large gamme de frequences unique capable de mesurer la puissance du signal emis sur les multiples bandes de frequences. Le telephone multibande comprend plusieurs amplificateurs de puissance, chaque amplificateur de puissance amplifiant la puissance d'un signal emis dans une bande de frequence differente. Une commande d'amplification de puissance est destinee a commander l'amplification effectuee par les amplificateurs de puissance, un dispositif de commutation effectuant la commutation de la connexion de la commande d'amplification de puissance en un amplificateur de puissance selectionne. Le dispositif de detection de puissance a large gamme de frequences unique est connecte a la sortie de tous les amplificateurs de puissance par un dispositif de commutation, le dispositif de commutation connectant le dispositif de detection de puissance a l'amplificateur de puissance particulier selectionne pour la transmission. Le detecteur de puissance peut alors regler la tension commandant l'amplificateur de puissance qui y est connecte sur la base d'une difference detectee entre la puissance de sortie voulue et la puissance de sortie mesuree.
