A new Mannich base, N-(1-morpholinobenzyl) semicarbazide (MBS), formed by the condensation of morpholine, semicarbazide and benzaldehyde, and its Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II) and Zn(II) complexes have been synthesized. Their structures have been elucidated on the basis of analytical, magnetic, electrical conductivity and spectral study as well as elemental analyses. The complexes exhibit square-planar geometry. The monomeric and non-electrolytic nature of the complexes is evidenced by their magnetic susceptibility and low conductance data. The electrochemical property of the ligand and its complexes in acetonitrile solution was studied by cyclic voltammetry. The X-band ESR spectra of the Cu(II) complex in DMSO at 300 and 77 K were recorded and their salient features are reported

Magnetic and spectral studies on N-(thiophene-2-carboxamido)salicylaldimine complexes of some bivalent 3d metal ions

A series of mixed ligand dithiocarbamate complexes with a general formula [ML2(py)2], where M = Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II), py = pyridine, and L = N-methyl-N-phenyl dithiocarbamate have been prepared and characterised by elemental analysis, FTIR and Uv spectroscopy, magnetic moment, and thermogravimetric and conductance analysis. The infrared spectra showed that symmetrical bidentate coordination occurred with the dithiocarbamate moiety through the sulfur atoms, while neutral monodentate coordination occurred through the nitrogen atom for the pyridine molecule in the complexes. The electronic spectra, elemental analysis, and magnetic moment results proved that the complexes adopted octahedral geometry. The conductance measurement showed that the complexes are nonelectrolytes proving their nonionic nature. The compounds were screened for three human pathogenic fungi: Aspergillus flavus, Aspergillus niger, and Candida albicans. The cobalt complex showed the best antifungal activity among the test compounds. Liquid-liquid extractive abilities of the ligand towards copper and nickel ions in different solvent media were investigated. The ligand showed a strong binding affinity towards the metals ions with an extractive efficiency of about 99%.

The 2-thenoylhydrazine, TH(L) (Fig. 1) complexes having 1:1, 1:2 or 1:3 metal-ligand stoichiometry have been prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, molar conductance, molecular weight, magnetic susceptibility, electronic, infrared, NMR, Mossbauer and X-ray powder diffraction studies. Tetrahedral stereochemistry around Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II), square pyramidal geometry around VO(IV) and octahedral coordination around Mn(II), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) ions have been proposed in these complexes on the basis of magnetic and spectral studies.

Synthesis and Characterization of 2-Thenoylhydrazine Complexes with some Bivalent Metal Ions

Complexes of the types M(HFCS)Cl-H2O [M = Co(II), Ni(II)], M(HFCS)2 [M = Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), Cd(II)] and M(FCS)(H2O)2 [M = Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Zn(II), H2FCS = N-(furan-2-carboxamido)salicylaldimine (OC4H3C[dbnd]O-NH-N[dbnd]CHC6H4OH)] have been synthesized. These complexes have been characterized employing elemental analyses, molar conductance, magnetic moment, electronic and IR spectral studies. The different modes of chelation of the ligand and the stereochemistry of the complexes are discussed.
