Correlational aspects of substituent effects in transition metal complexes containing non-fused phenyl rings transition metal complexes containing non-fused phenyl rings

The reactivity against OH− ion of some novel Fe(II) complexes of Schiff base ligands derived from salicylaldehyde or o-hydroxynaphth-aldehyde and some variety of amino acids has been examined in aqueous and aqua-ethanol mixtures. The rate law and relevant mechanism were assumed. Base hydrolysis kinetics measurements revealed pseudo-first-order doubly stage rates because of the presence of mer- and fac-isomers. Kinetics of base hydrolysis of novel low spin Fe(II) amino acid Schiff base chelates-hydrophobic structural effects

The Ru(phen)3(CN)2 · 6 H2O, Ru(bipy)3(CN)2 · 6H2O, Fe(phen)3(CN)2 · H2O and Ru(5-NO2P)3(CN)2 · 2 H2O compounds have been isolated during the reaction of the parent cations with aqueous cyanide solutions. It is evident, that in each case, attack at the ligand has taken placevia the cyanide nucleophile, though the equilibrium constant for the formation of the Reissert-type species are widely different. The implications of the findings with respect to the known reaction kinetics of the parent ions in aqueous cyanide solution are discussed.

Equilibria in complexes ofN-heterocyclic molecules, Part XV+. Intermediates in the reaction of cyanide with transition metal tris complexes of 1,10-phenanthroline, 5-nitro-1,10-phenanthroline and 2,2'-bipyridyl

Reaction of 2-acetylpyridine, hydrazine, and an iron(II) salt gives a low-spin binuclear iron(II) complex, [Fe2(pmk)3]4+, in which three tetradentate Schiff base ligands span the two metal centres to give a complex of helical geometry. We report solubilities of the iodide and perchlorate salts, in H2O, in aqueous MeOH, and in aqueous DMSO (perchlorate only), up to 60% by vol of organic cosolvent. Transfer chemical potentials for the complex cation from H2O into the respective mixed solvents have been derived from these solubilities, to give a picture of solvation of this complex in the media studied. Kinetics of base hydrolysis of [Fe2(pmk)3]4+ have been established, in H2O and in 40% MeOH, 20 and 40% i -PrOH, and 20 and 40% DMSO, at 298.2 K. The reactivity of [Fe2(pmk)3]4+ is discussed in relation to reactivities of a selection of iron(II)-diimine complexes, ranging from [Fe(bipy)3]2+ and [Fe(phen)3]2+ to ligand-encapsulated cage complexes.

Solvation and reactivity of a helical binuclear iron(II) complex with a tetradentate Schiff-base ligand

Kinetics of reaction of tris-[α-(2-pyridyl)benzylideneaniline]iron(II) complexes with cyanide in a range of aqueous alcohols indicate a bimolecular reaction mechanism. Second-order rate constants correlate with rate constants for aquation of the respective complexes, and with Grunwald–Winstein solvent Y values.
