Polyoxometalate topical compositions for removing contaminants from an environment and methods of use thereof are disclosed. An embodiment of the polyoxometalate topical composition includes a topical carrier and at least one polyoxometalate, with the proviso that the polyoxometalate is not H 5 PV 2 Mo 10 O 40 ; K 5 Si(H 2 O)Mn III W 11 O 39 ; K 4 Si(H 2 O)Mn IV W 11 O 39 ; or K 5 Co III W 12 O 40 . Another embodiment relates to a method for removing a contaminant from an environment, including contacting the polyoxometalate topical composition with the environment containing the contaminant for a sufficient time to remove the contaminant from the environment. An additional embodiment relates to a modified material for removing a contaminant from an environment, wherein the modified material includes (1) a material comprising a topical carrier, a powder, a coating, or a fabric, and (2) a metal compound including a transition metal compound, an actinide compound, a lanthanide compound, or a combination thereof, wherein the metal compound is not a polyoxometalate.

Polyoxometalate materials, metal-containing materials, and methods of use thereof

The present invention relates to novel sulfoperoxycarboxylic acid compounds, and methods for making and using them. The sulfoperoxycarboxylic compounds of the invention are storage stable, water soluble and have low to no odor. Further, the compounds of the present invention can be formed from non-petroleum based renewable materials. The compounds of the present invention can be used as antimicrobials, and bleaching agents. The compounds of the present invention are also suitable for use as coupling agents.

Sulfoperoxycarboxylic acids, their preparation and methods of use as bleaching and antimicrobial agents

A catalyst composition and process facilitates the oxidative reforming of low molecular weight hvdrocarbons, such as methane, to other hydrocarbon atoms having 2 or more carbon atoms (''C2 compounds.'') Compositions having a formula comprising a metal tungsten, manganese and oxygen effectively catalyze the oxidative reforming of methane with a high rale of conversion and selectivity. Controlling feed gas flow and catalyst bed temperature controls the exothermic OCM reaction, avoiding runaway reactions or coking. A single or multiple reactor svstem can be υtilized for the oxidative reforming reactions. Using two reactors in series, catalyst embodiments produced favorable yields of C2 compounds, in the presence or absence of a distributed oxygen feed, and with or without interstage effluent cooling. Removal of desirable end products from the reactor effluent, followed by recycling of the residual effluent, increases the conversion to, and ultimate yield of desirable end product.

The invention refers to a method to delignify fibrous material comprising an aqueous suspension of fibers which has a consistency between 5 % - 40 %, with a peroxy compound that is used in amounts between 0.5 % - 10 % based on bone dry fibrous material, and with a metal complex of the general formula (1): [LnMnmXp]zYq wherein Mn stands for manganese or iron, which can be present in oxidation state II, III, IV or V or in mixtures of these states; n and m are the integers 1-4; X is a coordinating ligand; p is an integer from 0 to 12; z is the charge of the complex and can be positive, neutral or negative; Y is a counter-ion or -molecule which depends on the charge of the complex; q is equal to z divided by the charge of Y; and L is a ligand and is represented by a macrocyclic organic molecule with general formula (2) wherein R?1, R2, R3 and R4? can be either zero, H, alkyl, aryl or otherwise optionally substituted; D and D' are either N, NR, PR O, or S, wherein R can be substituted by H or alkyl or aryl or otherwise optionally substituted; t and t' are whole integers from 2 to 3, s is an integer between 2 and 4, u is an integer from 1 to 20, and v is 0 or 1; this metal complex is used at an amount of 0.0001 % - 0.1 % based on bone dry fibrous material, wherein the fibers are delignified at an initial pH-level between 7.5 and 13.5, at a reaction temperature between 20 °C and 130 °C, and with a reaction time between 15 and 360 minutes.
