The art of information hiding has received much attention in the recent years as security of information has become a big concern in this internet era. As sharing of sensitive information via a common communication channel has become inevitable, Steganography – the art and science of hiding information has gained much attention. We are also surrounded by a world of secret communication, where people of all types are transmitting information as innocent as an encrypted credit card number to an online-store and as insidious as a terrorist plot to hijackers. Steganography derives from the Greek word steganos, meaning covered or secret, and graphy (writing or drawing) [1]. Steganography is a technology where modern data compression, information theory, spread spectrum, and cryptography technologies are brought together to satisfy the need for privacy on the Internet. This paper is an attempt to analyse the various techniques used in steganography and to identify areas in which this technique can be applied, so that the human race can be benefited at large.

A Study of Various Steganographic Techniques Used for Information Hiding

Nowadays, Data transmission over internet is not at all secure and they are vulnerable to various attacks. So in order to prevent our valuable information we require special security measures. One of the methods for secure data transmission is cryptography where the information is protected by transforming it into unintelligible format. But we can ensure more security if the existences of the hidden message itself is concealed. Steganography is one such method in which the message may be hidden in image, audio, video, text etc. In this paper a sequential hybrid method to integrate cryptography and steganography in order to provide more than one level security is being proposed. And it is proposed to use video steganography in order to store high capacity data. The secret information is encrypted using the standard encryption algorithm AES. Then the encrypted message is embedded in the motion vector of the compressed video. The motion vector for embedding data is selected based on their associated macro block prediction error. Then the secret message is embedded in both horizontal and vertical component of the motion vector. At the same time in each GOP, the control information for data extraction will be embedded in I frame. At the receiving end the control information in I frame should be extracted first then the encrypted message can be extracted from P and B frames accordingly. The original message is retrieved back by applying decryption algorithm

A New Cryptic Steganographic Approach using Video Steganography

In this paper, security enhanced image steganography is described. To enhance the security, cryptographic algorithm, Modified RSA in its symmetric form, is used to encrypt the message into cipher text and vice versa. The sender will encrypt the message with a key and then embed the cipher text into an image and send the image object via any transmission medium like internet along with the key to the receiver, so that the receiver can extract the cipher text from the image and then decrypt by the key that the sender have sent. The result was satisfactory and fulfilled the purpose but there arose many major issues like, visibility of the cipher pixel in case for lower resolution image; data corruption of the cipher text due to noise; limitation of grayscale image only; sender have to send a couple of image for comparison of the pixel data etc. However, noise problem have been challenged with the help of median filter but still there remains many scope to establish this algorithm into an efficient and optimized one.

One of the key methods for establishing hidden communication is steganography. Modern day steganography mainly deals with hiding information within files like image, text, html, binary files etc. These file contains small irrelevant information that can be substituted for small secret data. To store a high capacity secret data these carrier files are not very supportive. To overcome the problem of storing the high capacity secret data with the utmost security fence, we have proposed a novel methodology for concealing a voluminous data with high levels of security wall by using movie clip as a carrier file.
