Dovetail-shaped grooves are formed in the axial faces and circumferential rims of wheels and spacers forming a rotor body. Complementary-shaped balance weights are inserted through entry apertures in the grooves and circumferentially aligned into adjusted balanced positions. Fasteners are threaded through the weights to engage in slots at circumferentially spaced positions along ribs projecting from the bases of the grooves. By threading the fastener into the slot and staking the fastener to the balance weight, the metal of the rotary component is not upset or deformed, with the result that the potential for development of cracks in the rotary component is substantially reduced.

Apparatus and methods for balancing turbine rotors

The present invention relates to a vibroisolating apparatus for a vacuum cleaner adapted to absorb and inhibit the vibrations generated in a suction motor from being transmitted to a body of the vacuum cleaner to thereby reduce the noise resulting from the vibration to a minimum, and at the same time, to improve the ease of assembling and to decrease manufacturing cost by way of a simplified construction. The vibration generated in the suction motor during operations is absorbed and inhibited at a front side of the motor by a vibroisolating ring which is tightly disposed between a front motor case and the suction motor. The vibration is also absorbed and inhibited at a rear side of the motor by the rear surface packing which is disposed between a rear motor case and the motor. The apparatus thereby reduces generation of noise resulting from the vibration of the suction motor to a minimum and provides for relatively silent operation of the vacuum cleaner.

Turbine blades are held in groups formed by a series of spaced lugs constituting a lashing structure. Selected lugs have gaps which are "Z"-shaped, the gaps tending to close during untwisting of the blades when the blades are subjected to high centrifugal forces.

A one-piece cylindrical drum of a drum rotor has a plurality of enlarged, axially spaced-apart, annular rim portions through which axial blade root slots are machined. Turbine blades are held in long arc groups by a shroud structure, with gaps between segments of the shroud structure. These gaps are Z-shaped, the gaps tending to close due to untwisting of the blades when the blades are subjected to high centrifugal forces.

This invention comprises rotor structure for a turbine or compressor having an annular row of blades thereon, the rotor having a peripheral groove and the blades having root portions of the radial entry type received in the groove. The blade roots are machined to absolute pitch dimension or slightly less and the blades are disposed in groups, each group having an arcuate shroud segment riveted to the tenons of the blades in the group. Total accumulated deficiency due to undersize pitch dimensions in each group is made up by a thin liner member interposed between blade roots in adjacent groups.

Continuous shrouding-riveted construction

A method of broaching axial grooves for blade roots in a turbine rotor structure for a marine turbine having forward and astern elements exhausting to a common outlet and simultaneously broaching axial grooves for an integral exhaust baffle structure. The resulting structure is a rotor having a plurality of axial rows of grooves comprising an equal number of grooves in the rotor portion and the baffle structure.
