A Software Translation Kit (STK) system having a shell, TShell, coupled to an Export/Import module and various Editors is described. The Export/Import module itself includes a parsing engine to extract strings and translatable information from application programs. It functions as a front end parser to "translatable" sources, providing data conversion as needed. The STK system provides a standard interface and set of tools which can be used to localize graphic user interface products. By employing a datacentric approach, the system provides a standard platform which allows translators to act independently of the product they are translating.

System and methods for translating software into localized versions

A computer-based system catalogs and retrieves electronic messages saved in a message store. The system automatically organizes each saved message into multiple folders based on the contents and attributes of the message, and implements improved methods for manually organizing messages. Unlike prior art systems, where a message exists in only one folder, the system uses lightweight message shortcuts to display the message in multiple folders simultaneously. The system preferably permits messages to be organized by: 1) basic message and attachment properties, e.g. date, status, attachment type; 2) extended message properties that the user can specify, e.g. keywords; and 3) correspondent or bulk mail sender/recipient, with automatic separation of bulk mail from correspondence. Performance and usability are improved by performing reads incrementally and by providing multiple sorting keys.

System for managing and organizing stored electronic messages

Method and apparatus for sorting a stream of data such as a numerical or alphabetical list by stratifying vis-a-vis a hierarchal system thereby providing a list of items. This method begins with an unsorted list. For example, if a field of data is to be alphabetized, it groups words letter by letter, and it ends up with a sorted list. The sorting begins by grouping words according to their first letter. All words that begin with the same letter end up in the same group. The first group typically contains all words that begin with "A" if words are sorted or "1" if numbers are sorted. This method then takes the first group and re-groups it according to the second letter. The first group is thereby subdivided into smaller groups. Re-grouping continues in this fashion until the first group contains only one item. That one item is now sorted and it becomes the first item in the new sorted list. Re-grouping continues group by group and letter by letter until the entire list is sorted. Computer use is kept minimal by accounting for the location of unsorted, sorted or partially sorted items and elements comprising respectively (for example) a word and a letter in the word. By accounting using a location with directions to another location reflecting subsequent items to be sorted less memory is used than by traditional techniques and less time is required for sorting.

Apparatus and method for sorting a list of items

A data storage system has metadata server machines, content server machines arranged in groups where each group has a respective one or more of the content server machines, and a system interconnect to which the metadata and content server machines are communicatively coupled. A distributed file system is to be executed in the metadata server machines, the content server machines, and the client machine, to hide complexity of the system from a number of client machine users. The content server machines store slices of the files at locations indicated by the metadata. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

Data storage system

The method of the present invention may be utilized with a National Language Support (NLS) data processing system which includes a plurality of sortable keys. Each sortable key within the data processing system is assigned an alphabetic key value, a diacritic key value, a case key value and a special character key value. After building these key values for each character or key within the system, a place value may be assigned to each unique character which is based upon these four values. Thereafter, when specifying criteria for a search through the data processing system all four key values may be specified, thus permitting a search to focus exactly upon a desired alphabetic value, diacritic character value, case value and special character value for the desired alphabetic string. Alternatively, in a second embodiment of the present invention, a "fuzzy" or "quasi" search may be implemented by searching for those characters or keys which match the desired alphabetic value but which ignore one or more of the other key values. That is, diacritic marks may be ignored or case distinctions may be ignored at the option of the system user. In this manner, a rapid and efficient search through a National Language Support (NLS) data processing system may be accomplished with selectable degrees of accuracy in the resultant match.

Sorting method and apparatus

The particles are wetted with a liquid such as water, and the wetted particles brought into contact with a surface (14) which is at a temperature at or below the freezing point of the liquid. After a specified time period, particles which do and which do not adhere to the surface as a result of freezing effects are separately recovered from the surface, for example in bins (24, 26) separated by a divider (28). The method is particularly useful for separating diamondiferous from non-diamondiferous particles.

Sorting particles of differing thermal conductivities

The particles are at a higher temperature than the ice, and particles having desired characteristics, such as diamonds, have different thermal properties form gangue. Thus, the diamond particles melt the ice to a greater extent than the gangue particles. When the ice refreezes, the diamond particles are trapped in the ice layer. The gangue particles can then be swept off the ice, allowing the diamond particles to be recovered, for example, by melting the ice. Apparatus for carrying out the method is embodied in various different forms.
