The development of fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) has a major impact on improving air quality and reducing other fossil-fuel-related problems. DC-DC boost converters with wide input voltage ranges and high gains are essential to fuel cells and DC buses in the powertrains of FCVs, helping to improve the low voltage of fuel cells and “soft” output characteristics. To build DC-DC converters with the desired performance, their topologies have been widely investigated and optimized. Aiming to obtain the optimal design of wide input range and high-gain DC-DC boost converter topologies for FCVs, a review of the research status of DC-DC boost converters based on an impedance network is presented. Additionally, an evaluation system for DC-DC topologies for FCVs is constructed, providing a reference for designing wide input range and high-gain boost converters. The evaluation system uses eight indexes to comprehensively evaluate the performance of DC-DC boost converters for FCVs. On this basis, issues about DC-DC converters for FCVs are discussed, and future research directions are proposed. The main future research directions of DC-DC converter for FCVs include utilizing a DC-DC converter to realize online monitoring of the water content in FCs and designing buck-boost DC-DC converters suitable for high-power commercial FCVs.

Review of DC-DC Converter Topologies Based on Impedance Network with Wide Input Voltage Range and High Gain for Fuel Cell Vehicles

Solar power unit is needed to increase the lesser voltage of solar panels to the voltage of the power grid; thus, converter should have an immense voltage gain with few switches otherwise it leads to system complexity. A three-port converter with enhanced topology for renewable power utilizations based on Z-Source network is suggested to fix these issues well. This Z-Source network symbolize the suggested converter's distinctive characteristics. One port of energy storage system for energy storage and supplying, and the last one is for loads. It is followed with new topology design and output analyses by MATLAB.

Analysis of Z-Source Based Single Stage Three-Port Converter for PV Renewable Energy System

This paper presents performance analysis of switched boost dc-dc converter for distributed generation system in CCM (continuous conduction mode) operation, which combine the conventional switched-boost circuit with the switched-capacitor and switched inductor switching structure. Compared with the conventional boost converter, which uses convenient duty ratio, the presented topology is utilized to uplifting in voltage gain. The proposed topology exhibits advantages of the continuous current at the input and boost voltage conversion ratio without use of high duty cycle (approx less than 1) and transformer. Proposed converter supports in producing high output voltage gain by operating in different modes. The simulation result brought out from MATLAB 2016 b.

Performance Analysis of Switched-Boost DC to DC Converter for Distributed Generation system

Paper proposes a combined Z-Source boost DC-DC converter for distributed generation systems. The traditional Z-source networks are limited to providing a boosted output voltage. Although by combining some Z-source network in different ways, its boost capability can be increased. The proposed converter can improve large range of output DC voltage and improve reliability with high voltage step-up capability. The proposed converter can be used in fuel cells and PV applications. The principle and comparison for the proposed converter topologies are presented in this paper. Simulation results depending upon the given duty ratio has been carried out using different operating conditions.

Analysis of Combined Z-Source Boost DC-DC Converter for Distributed Generation Systems

A modular high power high gain, non-isolated DC-DC boost converter accompanied by twin coupled-inductors is presented in this proposed paper. DC-DC converters serve to the requirements of multiple applications such as automotive systems, sustainable energy based applications and multiple dc-back up energy units. The proposed topology of converter comprises of hybrid combination of interleaved boost converters(IBC), twin coupled-inductors(Cis), voltage multiplier unit(VMU). IBC to reduce stress on switches, and lower the input current ripples, twin coupled-inductors connected in series for voltage gain and current balancing, voltage multiplier unit to boost up the output voltage and get high gain. The main significant trait like voltage-gain, stress on diodes and switches, turns-ratio, component design, utilization factor, and efficiency are summarized. The circuit layout, operational aspects, simulation results and performance analysis of 60 V/1.4 kV, 3kW, 100kHz proposed converter are presented.

Non-Isolated Hybrid Modular DC-DC Converter with Twin Coupled-Inductors for DC Microgrid

This paper presents Investigation of Operational Principle for Integrated Inverting and Non-Inverting PWM AC-AC Converter. The proposed topology exhibits advantages of traditional AC-AC converter by pulse width modulation (PWM) techniques. It offers two switching states that supports in providing the regulation of output voltage in both the directions by operating in different modes. Each operating mode of proposed converter can provide invert buck-boost and non-invert buck-boost output voltage along with power factor compatibility. In the proposed work, two modes of UNI-AC have been considered. The simulation is carried out in MATLAB-2016 b environment.
