TL;DR: In 2011, the JRC launched a repository for representative nanomaterials to support both EU and international research projects, and especially the OECD Working Party on Manufactured NanOMaterials that leads an exploratory programme "Testing a Representative set of manufactured nanommaterials", aiming to generate and collect data on characterisation and (eco)toxicological properties to understand relevant end-points as well as the applicability of OECD Test Guidelines for testing nanometres as discussed by the authors.
Towards a review of the EC Recommendation for a definition of the term "nanomaterial"Part 2: Assessment of collected information concerning the experience with the defintion

TL;DR: Based on the current report, JRC will prepare a set of recommendations for the revision of the EC nanomaterial definition, as part of the review process foreseen in the 2011 EC Recommendation.

Towards a review of the EC Recommendation for a definition of the term "nanomaterial": Part 3: Scientific-technical evaluation of options to clarify the definition and to facilitate its implementation
Rauscher Hubert,Roebben Gert,Boix Sanfeliu Ana,Emons Hendrik,Gibson Peter,Koeber Robert,Linsinger Thomas,Rasmussen Kirsten,Riego Sintes Juan,Sokull-Kluettgen Birgit,Stamm Hermann +10 more
TL;DR: Because of the regulatory purpose of the definition, there is little evidence to support deviating from size as the sole defining property of a nanoparticle or from the range of 1 nm to 100 nm as definition of the nanoscale.
Considerations on information needs for nanomaterials in consumer products; Discussion of a labelling and reporting scheme for nanomaterials in consumer products in the EU
Aschberger Karin,Rauscher Hubert,Crutzen Hugues,Rasmussen Kirsten,m. Christensen Frans,Sokull-Kluettgen Birgit,Stamm Hermann +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors provide an overview of the state of the art of verification methods currently available to detect and quantify nanomaterials, also when they are embedded in matrices.
