Biometric Recognition - Security and Privacy Concerns.

Biometric security is a fast growing area that gains an increasing interest in the last decades. Digital encryption and hiding techniques provide an efficient solution to protect biometric data from accidental or intentional attacks. In this paper, a highly secure encryption/hiding scheme is proposed to ensure secure transmission of biometric data in multimodal biometric identification/authentication system. The secret fingerprint and iris vectors are sparsely approximated using accelerated iterative hard thresholding technique and then embedded in the host Slantlet-SVD domain of face image. Experiments demonstrate the efficiency of our technique for both encryption and hiding purpose, where the secret biometric information is well encrypted and still extractable with high fidelity even though the carrier image is seriously corrupted. Our experimental results show the efficiency of the proposed technique in term of robustness to attacks, Invisibility, and security.

A hybrid encryption/hiding method for secure transmission of biometric data in multimodal authentication system

Modern biometric technologies claim to provide alternative solution to traditional authentication processes. Even though there are various advantages of biometric process, it is vulnerable to attacks which can decline its security. Towards addressing these concerns and improving public confidence, Biometric Cryptosystems and Cancelable Biometrics represent emerging technologies. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of Biometric Cryptosystems and Cancelable Biometrics along with the open issues and challenges. A new approach is proposed to address these open issues and challenges based on Cancellable Biometrics using chaotic maps, which are known to posses desirable properties of pseudo randomness, high sensitivity to initial conditions and very large key space.

Chaotic Maps for Biometric Template Protection-A Proposal

In the present scenario, the major concern in today's society is about securing information and providing personal privacy. Researches from decade proven that Biometric authentication systems are commercially spreading and widely used for large scale authentication systems. Due to this, there is an immense growth in biometric authentication systems for data protection. This paper is mainly concerned about protection of biometric templates generated and stored in the system to avoid the misuse of these templates by fraudulent user in order to access the data of the legitimate. We make use of chaotic logistic maps, to obtain highly random keys which are highly sensitive to initial conditions, for providing security to iris templates.

A Novel Irreversible Transformation Scheme for Biometric Template Protection

Protection of biometric data is of prime importance now a days. In this paper a new method is proposed for the protection of biometric facial data using visual cryptography and chaotic encryption. By using visual cryptography each private face image is decomposed into two public host images. The original image gets revealed only when both of these images are available simultaneously. By using chaotic encryption extra protection as well as privacy is ensured for these images. Chaotic encryption is applied onto each share. Any system having chaotic behaviour is used for getting values for encrypting the shares. Here 1D logistic map is used.
