A polyelectrolyte complex for the controlled release of an oil and gas field chemical selected from the group consisting of (a) a gel-forming or cross-linking agent, (b) a scale inhibitor, (c) a corrosion inhibitor, (d) an inhibitor of asphaltene or wax deposition, (e) a hydrogen sulfide scavenger, (f) a hydrate inhibitor, (g) a breaking agent, and a surfactant.

Polyelectrolyte complexes for oil and gas applications

The accumulation of scale in an aqueous system is inhibited by the addition of a copolymer of maleic acid or anhydride or fumaric acid and allyl sulfonic acid and a water soluble organic phosphonic acid such as aminotri(methylene phosphonic acid), ethylenediaminetetra(methylene phosphonic acid), hydroxyethylidene diphosphonic acid and 2-phosphonobutane tricarboxylic acid-1,2,4 or water soluble salts thereof. Scale can actually be removed by the addition of these materials to pressurized boiler water systems. Allyl or vinyl copolymers, a phosphonate, and optionally a water soluble, hardness precipitating agent such as a carbonate or a phosphate may be used when treating pressurized boilers to provide an in-service cleaning effect.

Composition and method for inhibiting scale

The present invention relates to processes for controlling the formation and deposition of scale and sludge and in particular calcium phosphate which would otherwise occur in aqueous mediums containing sludge and the ions capable of forming scale. The invention, more particularly, relates to the control, reduction and/or prevention of scale and sludge deposits in cooling water, scrubber and steam generating systems, evaporators, economizers, and the like by the introduction of a copolymer comprising sulfonated styrene and maleic anhydride moieties to the water used therein. The copolymers discovered to be particularly effective for the purpose are those having a mole ratio of sulfonated styrene moieties to moieties derived from maleic anhydride of from about 2:1 to about 4:1 and preferably 2:1 to 3:1 with certain type deposits.

Copolymers for the control of the formation and deposition of materials in aqueous mediums

A method for treatment of boiler waters is disclosed. The method comprises a synergetic combination of ametacrylic acid-containing polymer with a strongly interacting nonionic surfactant, together with a chelant and/or a phosphate-generating species. The method is particularly effective when the surfactant is an alkoxylated alkylphenol or an alkoxylated alkylphenol ether.

Boiler water treatment

A panel is provided forming a water barrier and comprising two opposing spaced sheets having between said spaced sheets a sealant composition comprising bentonite; a water soluble dispersing agent selected from the group consisting of a water-soluble salt of acetic acid, a water-soluble salt of phosphoric acid, and a water-soluble salt of boric acid; and a water-soluble polymer selected from the group consisting of polyacrylic acid, water-soluble salts of polyacrylic acid, hydrolyzed polyacrylonitrile, polyvinyl acetate, polyvinyl acid and maleic anhydride, the amount of water-soluble polymer in said sealant composition being from 0.1% to 3.0%, by weight, and the amount of water-soluble dispersant in said sealant composition being from 0.1% to 3.0%, by weight, the weight ratio of water-soluble dispersant to water-soluble polymer being from 6:1-36. The panel is disposed against a foundation to act as a water barrier, shielding the foundation against water seepage.
