Brush-honing machine

The feed system (30) for a honing machine (10) provides a capability to dynamically correct in real time errors in bore size inferred arising from variations in feed force, and a method of operation of the same. The system (10) allows a user to select between rate and force controlled honing modes, which provides one or more of the advantages of both modes. The system provides capabilities for automatic rapid automatic bore wall detection, compensation for elasticity of elements of the feed system (30) and honing tool (14), and automatic tool protection. The system is automatically operable using feed force, feed rate and positional information for honing a work piece (20) to one or more target parameters, such as one or more in-process sizes and a final size.

The honing feed system and method utilizes feedback from various sources during rapid feeding of the honing tool while rotating and stroking, to detect initial contact with a bore surface, to slow the feed to a normal honing rate, involving conditioning the feedback signals to eliminate noise factors such as the stroking movement and forces generated to rotate and feed the tool unopposed.

A honing machine has a stone expansion system in which the honing stones are expanded radially via wedges by radial movement generated by a d.c. wedge motor. The motor (13) is driven by a constant-current amplifier (50) which provides a driving current according to a required stone pressure (a). This determines the torque of the motor during honing. A speed input (g) sets a required approach speed and from this is derived a control signal which controls an on/off controller (55). This causes the output current of the constant-current amplifier to be chopped, thereby controlling speed as the stones approach the wall of the bore whilst allowing control of torque during honing.

A structure for a chemical vapor deposition reactor desirably includes a reaction chamber having an interior, a spindle mounted in the reaction chamber, and a wafer carrier releasably mounted onto the spindle for rotation therewith. The spindle desirably has a shaft extending along a vertical rotational axis and a key projecting outwardly from the shaft. The wafer carrier preferably has a body defining oppositely-facing top and bottom surfaces and at least one wafer-holding feature configured so that a wafer can be held therein with a surface of the wafer exposed at the top surface of the body. When a pretermined finished size has been achieved, a displacement control mechanism returns the honing tool to its starting position. Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Zustellen des beim Langhubhonen bekannten Honwerkzeuges (2) einer Honmaschine. Dabei erfolgt die Zustellung im Eilgang und im Zerspangang mit nur einem Motor (4), der so angesteuert ist, das er im Eilgang mit hoher Drehzahl und niederem Grenzdrehmoment arbeitet. Wegen des geringen Drehmoments im Eilgang fallt die Drehzahl beim Anlegen der Honsteine (19) an die Bohrungswand (20) schnell ab, wodurch die Steuerung (3) den Motor (4) umschaltet, die Honsteine (19) um einen gewissen Betrag zuruckstellt und auf den Zerspangang umschaltet, der mit niederer Drehzahl und hoherem Grenzdrehmoment arbeitet. Bei Erreichen eines vorgegebenen Fertigmases stellt eine Zustelisteuerung (3) das Honwerkzeug (2) wieder in seine Ausgangsstellung zuruck. Die Erfindung beschreibt ein Verfahren zur automatischen Zustellsteuerung einer Honmaschine sowie eine Vorrichtung zur Ausfuhrung des Verfahrens.
