.A security system and method is provided. An embodiment includes a security access device that includes a first transmitter for transmitting authentication to a computer and a second transmitter for transmitting verification information to a computer. The first transmitter is typically active and consumes power from the access device, while the second transmitter is typically passive, and consumes less or nil power from the access device. When the security access device is initially brought proximal to the computer and activated, the authentication information is sent to the computer and the user is logged in. Periodically, the computer will query the passive transmitter for verification information, to ensure that the security access device is still proximal to the computer.

In one embodiment, a verification platform is adapted for communication with at least a first device. The verification platform receives a verification request from the first device, identifies one or more verification rules previously established by a user of the first device for processing of the verification request, sends a notification regarding the one or more verification rules, receives verification input responsive to the notification, and grants or denies the verification request based at least in part on the received verification input. The verification rule or rules specify multiple distinct types of verification selected by the user, and a sequence in which the selected verification types are to be applied in processing the verification request. The verification request may be generated in conjunction with an attempted launch of a designated application on the first device. The first device may comprise a mobile telephone, a computer or another type of device.

Methods and apparatus for rules-based multi-factor verification

A telecommunication system is arranged between a trusted automated interactive system and a non-secure agent. The trusted automated interactive portion is operable for bidirectional communications with a caller. The agent portion is arranged to be bridged onto a communication connection between the caller (or network chat user) and the trusted interactive system under certain conditions. Sensitive data transmitted between the system and a calling user may be blocked from being communicated to the agent even while the agent is bridged onto the connection. In one embodiment, information (such as a verification of authenticity of the caller) pertaining to the sensitive data (but not the sensitive data itself) is communicated to the agent.

A security system and method is provided. In an embodiment, a personal integrated circuit (“PIC”), is provided that can be presented to a laptop computer. The PIC includes a digital certificate personal to an authorized user and is operable to automatically install the certificate on the laptop computer once presented into the computer and once the user enters a valid password respective to the PIC. At this point, the laptop presents the certificate to a server via a network, and the certificate is checked for validity. If valid, the user is then permitted to log into the server. Having logged into the server, the user can remain logged in even as the PIC is removed and presented to different computing devices that are also able to connect to the server via the network. Typically, the user is only able to access the server through the computing device to which the PIC is attached. The user is automatically logged out of the server after a predefined period of inactivity or according to such other criteria as may be desired.
