The lean startup

The Lattes platform is the major scientific information system maintained by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). This platform allows to manage the curricular information of researchers and institutions working in Brazil based on the so called Lattes Curriculum. However, the public information is individually available for each researcher, not providing the automatic creation of reports of several scientific productions for research groups. It is thus difficult to extract and to summarize useful knowledge for medium to large size groups of researchers. This paper describes the design, implementation and experiences with scriptLattes: an open-source system to create academic reports of groups based on curricula of the Lattes Database. The scriptLattes system is composed by the following modules: (a) data selection, (b) data preprocessing, (c) redundancy treatment, (d) collaboration graph generation among group members, (e) research map generation based on geographical information, and (f) automatic report creation of bibliographical, technical and artistic production, and academic supervisions. The system has been extensively tested for a large variety of research groups of Brazilian institutions, and the generated reports have shown an alternative to easily extract knowledge from data in the context of Lattes platform. ScriptLattes: an open-source knowledge extraction system from the Lattes platform

Scientific networks have fostered knowledge creation and the innovation process by means of information interchange and mainly by the combination of competences of different groups searching for common goals. In this paper we outline the chronology and review the main approaches to study collaborative scientific networks. More specifically the article addresses the possibilities brought by the new Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to scientific network research by discussing examples of knowledge systems from the Lattes Platform: Egressos (Alumni), Colaboradores (Collaborators), and Redes-GP (Research Group Networks). Those systems allow for the realization, with wide amounts of data, of social network analysis, both using algorithms from the literature and creating new approaches brought about by the ICTs.

An analysis of scientific collaboration networks under the new technologies of information and communication: a study in Lattes Platform

The scientific collaboration is an enterprise that involves common goals, coordinated efforts and results or products through which the collaborators share the responsibility and the credit. These networks have, in their base, relation with Science, Technology and Innovation management platforms (CT&I). In other words, they include the choice of an information source and of an analysis possibility of the way networks are structured. Thus, the goal of this dissertation is to combine the importance of the collaboration for CT&I, the studies available in the field and the possibility of making them effective by means of instruments that count on the existence of an information platform in the area. In the present study, it is highlighted, through the use of relationship networks, a phenomenon known in the literature as “small world”, which has central vertexes (hubs) that make it possible to cover the whole network by using few links. The technique employed was “Link Analysis”, which allowed the study of these relationship networks. This study showed the detection of these hubs in research co-authorship networks. Firstly, the researchers, represented by vertexes, were selected and links among researchers with coauthorship were built. Secondly, the exhibition of links was restricted to a given (minimum) number of links and then the hubs were identified. The experiment approached the 36 most productive Brazilian researchers in the Production Engineering field, according to their Lattes curriculums. The analysis revealed that all three researchers (hubs) belong to the same graduate program. This result allows enhancing the level of knowledge about relationship networks.

Análise de redes de pesquisa em uma plataforma de gestão em ciência e tecnologia: uma aplicação à plataforma Lattes

Global Software development approach has become a reality with growing demand for complex software. However, this approach requires a greater attention because it demands additional coordination and communication among the distributed team members. So, tools and techniques to share information and knowledge generated by each team geographically dispersed are necessary. In this scenario, this position paper presents a set of challenges and opportunities for research in global software development (GSD). These challenges and opportunities are focused on contextual information management, knowledge management, performance management, socio-cultural aspects of GSD, and strategies to store and sharing data. They were mapped into a proposed research agenda with the following items: knowledge management in GSD projects; definition of mechanisms to support the capture of contextual information; use of cloud computing paradigm to store data generated; study of techniques for dealing with the contextual information; and establishment of performance dimensions to provide support for the decision maker that manages the distributed teams. The research agenda also includes strategies defined aiming to strengthen the partnership between university and industry. We believe that the collaboration between university and industry can contribute for the consolidation of the area in Brazil.

Knowledge and Contextual Information Management in Global Software Development: Challenges and Perspectives

This paper proposes an approach based on mathematical modeling to provide decision making support for the Next Release Problem (NRP) arising in software development and maintenance companies that use SCRUM to manage teams and new releases of its software products. This approach aims to support the decisions from Product Owners and Teams about which requirements should be implemented for the next software release. Therefore it is proposed to use mixed integer programming in three different objective functions: (i) maximization of the customer satisfaction (considering their business value), (ii) minimization of software development time and (iii) minimization of the costs to produce the requirements. We consider constraints such as team availability, dependencies among requirements, the team's performance among others. The modeling was performed with the help of the AIMMS tool and some case studies were performed in three software development and maintenance companies using real data. The results show that it was possible to adapt the NRP for this kind of companies, achieving a better customer's satisfaction and business results using our approach.
