Journal ArticleDOI

Physiological evidence for habenula as major link between forebrain and midbrain raphe.

TL;DR: Electrical stimulation of the habenula markedly suppressed serotonergic neurons in the midbrain raphe, which suggests that gamma-aminobutyric acid is the inhibitory transmitter in the ha benula-raphe pathway.
Journal ArticleDOI

Habenular and other midbrain raphe afferents demonstrated by a modified retrograde tracing technique.

TL;DR: The existence of a major afferent system from the lateral habenula to the midbrain raphe is consistent with the concept of a "dorsal pathway" which might be responsible for relaying information from fore brain limbic structures to the "midbrain limbic areas".
