The invention relates to a fan. Said fan has a drive motor with a fan rotor, an apparatus for generating a rotation-speed signal (n i) which characterizes the rotation speed of the fan rotor, an apparatus for generating a power signal (P_i) which characterizes the power which is consumed by the drive motor; a first regulator(n_RGL) for regulating the rotation-speed signal (n i) at a predefined setpoint rotation-speed value (n_s); a second regulator (P RGL) for regulating the power signal(P_i) at a predefined setpoint power signal value (P_s) which corresponds to a predefined minimum consumption power (P_min), wherein the first regulator (n_RGL) and the second regulator (P_RGL) output at least one actuation value (SW) to the drive motor and interact in such a way that, during operation, the at least one actuation value (SW) is determined by the first regulator (n_RGL) in a first state; and is determined by the second regulator (P_RGL) in a second state, wherein a first change is made from the first state to the second state when the consumed power is lower than the minimum consumption power (P_min).

Rotation-speed-controlled fan with control of the power consumption of the electric motor

A system and method for controlling the speed of an electric motor compares the actual speed of the motor with the desired speed of the motor. A digital comparison of the desired speed of the electric motor with the actual speed of the electric motor provides an error signal indicative of the error between the desired speed and the actual speed. A large timing current from a programmed timing control will cause an increase in the speed of the motor, while a smaller timing current from the programmed timing control will cause a decrease in the speed of the motor. In this manner, the programmed timing control affects the actual speed of the motor 12 to approach the desired speed. The programmed timing control can also provide a ramping acceleration or deceleration as the motor speed changes to approach the desired speed. The speed control system can also include a programmed stall detector which can cause the operation of the electric motor to be ceased when a stalled motor condition is detected.

A method of determining the degree z of a hyperbolic non-linear characteristic, of a process that is controlled by application of a manipulated variable signal thereto for varying a first characteristic thereof, and that generates a controlled variable signal representative of that first characteristic by applying a first pulse to the process by stepping the manipulated variable signal and observing the resultant maximum change in the controlled variable and then applying a second pulse to the process by stepping the manipulated variable in the opposite direction and observing the maximum change in the controlled variable, and using the ratio of the two maxima to determine the non-linear characteristic and make appropriate compensation in the controller.

Method and apparatus for characterizing and compensating for non-linear components

A control circuit for a closed loop command system having an output which is adjusted to conform with an input command level. A pulse generator provides digital pulses with durations representative of the output of the system. Command pulses are generated by the system pulses and have durations representative of the input command. Each pulse is applied to logic gating along with the complement of the other pulse, with the logic gating providing a signal indicating whether the system pulse or the command pulse is longer. The last gate signal is retained in a flip flop memory and is used to adjust the output power level up or down depending upon the result of the pulse length comparison.
