Journal ArticleDOI
Sphingomyelin metabolites inhibit sphingomyelin synthase and CTP:phosphocholine cytidylyltransferase.
TL;DR: The data presented here suggest that TNF-alpha may be an inhibitor of phospholipid metabolism in inflammatory tissue injury and these actions may be amplified because of the ability of metabolites of sphingomyelin to inhibit the pathways that should restore the normal ceramide-sphingomelin homeostasis.
Journal ArticleDOI
PKC, p42/p44 MAPK, and p38 MAPK are required for HGF-induced proliferation of H441 cells.
TL;DR: Results demonstrate that HGF activates PKC and both MAPKs simultaneously through parallel pathways and that the activation of theMAPKs does not depend on PKC, however, p38 and p42/p44 MAPks and PKC may all be essential for HGF-induced proliferation of H441 cells.
Journal ArticleDOI
Colloidal gold immunoultrastructural localization of rat surfactant
TL;DR: The results demonstrate the presence of surfactant proteins within the lamellar body secretory product and support the idea that the Surfactant lipoprotein complex is formed within intracellular sites prior to its secretion into the alveolar space.
Journal ArticleDOI
Alterations in surfactant protein gene expression associated with premature birth and exposure to hyperoxia.
TL;DR: Exposure of the premature fetus to hyperoxia results in an increase in the steady-state levels of SP-B and SP-C mRNA without significant changes in SP-A, which may be contributing to development of bronchopulmonary dysplasia, a common clinical complication of premature birth in humans.
OtherDOI
Lipid Synthesis and Surfactant Turnover in the Lungs
Richard J. King,John A. Clements +1 more
TL;DR: The sections in this article are: Lipid Composition of Lung Tissue, Relationship Between Protein and Lipid Metabolism, and Compartmental Analysis in Studies of Surfactant Turnover.
