Global Prevalence of Diabetes: Estimates for the year 2000 and projections for 2030
TL;DR: Findings indicate that the "diabetes epidemic" will continue even if levels of obesity remain constant, and given the increasing prevalence of obesity, it is likely that these figures provide an underestimate of future diabetes prevalence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Global estimates of the prevalence of diabetes for 2010 and 2030.
TL;DR: These predictions, based on a larger number of studies than previous estimates, indicate a growing burden of diabetes, particularly in developing countries.
Journal ArticleDOI
Global healthcare expenditure on diabetes for 2010 and 2030
Ping Zhang,Xinzhi Zhang,Jonathan B. Brown,Dorte Vistisen,Richard Sicree,Jonathan E. Shaw,Gregory A. Nichols +6 more
TL;DR: The very low expenditures per capita in poor countries indicate that more resources are required to provide basic diabetes care in such settings as well as indicating that more prevention efforts are needed to reduce this burden.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Rising Prevalence of Diabetes and Impaired Glucose Tolerance: The Australian Diabetes, Obesity and Lifestyle Study
David W. Dunstan,Paul Zimmet,Timothy A Welborn,Maximilian de Courten,Adrian J. Cameron,Richard Sicree,Terry Dwyer,Stephen Colagiuri,Damien Jolley,Matthew Knuiman,Robert C. Atkins,Jonathan E. Shaw +11 more

Journal ArticleDOI
Global Prevalence of Diabetes: Estimates for the Year 2000 and Projections for 2030 Response to Rathman and Giani
TL;DR: There is a greater diversity of diabetes prevalence in Europe than suggested by the recent article on the global prevalence of diabetes, but the data from their study in Augsburg, Germany had not been published when the data for the article were assembled in 2002.
