A conveyor-type sludge filtering device for extracting the liquid component from the sludge, the device including a horizontally moving supported strand of a perforate endless conveyor belt onto which a continuous flow of sludge is deposited, while rows of flow breaker members extend downwardly into the moving sludge, thereby preventing the formation of sludge layers, especially of a belt-plugging bottom layer of solid matter. The flow breakers are preferably wedge-shaped and pivotably supported on transverse rods.

A method for dewatering a slurry of solid particles suspended in a liquid using a twin belt press dewatering system, comprising the following steps: feeding the slurry of solid particles into the dewatering system; feeding a cationic amine salt solution into the dewatering system at a point just prior to the mixing drum, the cationic amine salt being a latex copolymer of acrylamide and dimethylaminoethylmethacrylate sulfuric acid salt having a mole ratio in the range between about 30:70 to 70:30, preferably 53:47; mixing the cationic amine salt solution with the slurry of solid particles in the mixing drum; and feeding the cationic amine salt solution/slurry mixture to the twin belt press, whereby the slurry of solid particles is dewatered. The cationic amine salt solution having a strength of less than 1% and a polymer concentration of about 35%.

Method for dewatering a slurry using a twin belt press with cationic amine salts

A cylindrical sight glass housing is threaded to the end of the horizontal septic tank inlet pipe within a building basement which pipe extends through a vertical basement wall and terminates within an in-ground septic tank. A port within the cylindrical housing permits water under pressure to impinge against the glass window to clean the window and flush inlet pipe to the septic tank. A thin tube air conduit projects through the cylindrical housing and has attached thereto a coiled flexible plastic pipe which terminates in a porous aeration element. A conical piston is fixed to the aeration element and a vibrating air pump supplies air to the coiled flexible pipe and aeration element. The flow of sewage through the inlet pipe or the water under pressure in cleaning the sight glass drives the piston through the length of the pipe and into the septic tank where the air escaping from the porous aeration element provides aerobic action to the sewage within the tank and to the leach field downstream thereof.

An aerobic system provided to treat sewage generated by a modern larger home which does not have access to a municipal sewage connection The features of this system are adaptable to upgrade and/or replace existing systems. In a preferred embodiment the system uses two 1000 gallon tanks, a first pretreatment tank to receive raw sewage, remove settleable and floatable solids from the sewage, and discharge into a second tank in which the pool of sewage is aerated. The second tank contains a motor driven aerator and a unique self-cleaning filter driven by an outgoing liquid stream from the aerator. After passing through the filter, the liquid is then discharged into a leaching field or nearby stream as permitted by the proper regulatory agency. The self-cleaning rotating filter features a rotating drive energized from the pressurized stream of liquid ejecting from the aerator and impinging upon a side of the filter structure (similarly to a paddle wheel), rotating the filter assembly about its supporting tube as the stream enters spaces between blades of the filter structure, also impinging upon, and passing through a filter cloth, leaving particulate matter on the impinged side of the cloth to be brushed away into the pool of sewage undergoing aeration, during rotation of the filter structure.

Apparatus for draining of muddy liquids, especially of sludges and slurries in sewage clarification plants, where first of all an ionic coagulant, eg., an anionic or cationic coagulating agent, is added to the muddy liquid in a first ionic coagulating means to obtain an aqueous sludge which is separated from the muddy liquid in a first coagulating chamber by sedimentation in a straining zone and wherein the aqueous sludge is subsequently filtered and pressed, whereafter the liquid is treated in a second coagulating or mixing chamber. The apparatus to carry out the process comprises in addition to the first coagulation chamber coagulation chamber for the muddy liquid, a revolving screening belt constituting the filtering means for the straining zone and a series connected revolving screen belt press which aids in dewatering the filtered solids. This second coagulation chamber apparatus is located at the delivery end of the screening belt and constitutes the straining zone for the addition of the ionic coagulant of opposite charge to the aqueous slurry and includes the mixing chamber which has a slit outlet lying transversely above the receiving screen belt of the screen belt press whereby the dried filter cake leaves the screen belt press to provide as complete as possible transfer of the slurry cake from the revolving screen belt and belt press.

Apparatus for draining of muddy liquids

A sewage treatment system is divided into two stages with a collection system dispersed therebetween. The first stage includes anoxic treatment units producing an anaerobic effluent which is moved through the vacuum tight collection system to the second stage of treatment including an oxidation unit producing an aerobic effluent containing nitrates, dissolved oxygen and activated sludge. The two liquids are mixed in a chamber and are subjected to treatment before discharge for producing a highly treated effluent from which a major part of the nutrients have been removed.

THE INVENTION PROVIDES AN IMPROVED METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR TREATING WATER CONTAINING SUSPENDED SOLIDS FROM A SANITARY SYSTEM. IN CARRYING OUT THE METHOD, THE WATER IS AERATED AND DELIVERED TO A SCREEN WITH A DIRECTIONAL COMPONENT ACROSS THE SCREEN SURFACE AND A DIRECTIONAL COMPONENT THROUGH THE SCREEN. THE SCREEN HAS OPENINGS LARGE ENOUGH TO PASS THE MAJORITY OF THE SOLIDS SUSPENDED IN THE WATER, AND HAS THE ABILITY TO HOLD A COATING OF THESE SOLIDS ON ITS UPSTREAM SIDE. THE FLOW OF WATER IS CONTROLLED SO THAT A COATING OF THE SUSPENDED SOLIDS FROM THE WATER IS FORMED ON THE SCREEN SURFACE. THE DELIVERY OF WATER CONTAINING THESE SUSPENDED SOLIDS TO THE SCREEN IS CONTINUED WITH A DIRECTIONAL COMPONENT ACROSS THE SCREEN AND A DIRECTIONAL COMPONENT THROUGH THE SCREEN, WHEREBY TO FILTER SOLIDS FROM THE WATER PASSING THROUGH THE COATING AND SCREEN. THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE DIRECTIONAL COMPONENTS ACROSS AND THROUGH THE SCREEN IS CONTROLLED TO MAINTAIN THE COATING ON THE SCREEN. THE WATER THAT IS PASSED THROUGH THE SCREEN IS STORED, AND IS RECYCLED TO THE SANITARY SYSTEM.
