A powder coating composition of the invention comprises a film-forming polymeric component having a d(v,50) in the range of from 25 to 50 microns or a d(v,70) in the range of from 25 to 70 microns, which composition incorporates by dry-blending at least one appearance-modifying additive component and a further component comprising wax-coated silica or consisting of alumina together with aluminium hydroxide. The appearance-modifying additive may be a gloss-reducing component, a texturing component, a metallic or mica component, a colouring pigment, or a further film-forming polymeric material compatible with the first film-forming polymeric material and differing in colouration therefrom, and the further additive may be alumina together with aluminium hydroxide or wax-coated silica together with alumina and/or with aluminium hydroxide or wax-coated silica. Preferably, no more than 70 % by volume of the particles in the film-forming polymeric material are less than 50 microns. A kit of the invention comprises the individual additive components prior to mixing. The kit allows for the flexibl production of a variety of finishes from a gloss powder coating composition, for example a matt or textured or metallic or sparkle finish or a matt textured finish, a matt metallic finish, an antique finish or a contrast texture or metallic sparkle finish.

Modified polymers, particularly polyolefins having improved flow and in some instances improved adhesion properties over that of a polymeric, e.g. polyolefin, base stock used as a starting material, are produced by a controlled reaction often involving degradation in an extruder, in which an initiator is injected under conditions of either maximum distribution or intensive mixing wherein appreciable rheological, i.e. molecular weight distribution, changes in said base polymer occur. In some embodiments monomers are also grafted to said base stock, during said degradation process. In such instances, exceptional, novel, grafted polymers with high melt flow properties and other useful properties are obtained.

This invention provides certain blue substituted 1,4-bis(2,6-dialkylanilino) anthraquinones in combination with selected red anthraquinone and anthrapyridone (3H-dibenz[f,ij] isoquinoline-2,7-dione) compounds which provide a toner system useful in imparting a desirable neutral to slightly blue hue to polyesters having a yellow appearance. The thermally stable colored compounds can have polyester reactive groups and are preferably incorporated into the polyester polymer structure during polymerization.

Provided are water-dissipatable, sulfo-containing polyesters and polyester-amides having copolymerized therein thermally stable near infrared flourophoric compounds. The polymers are useful in coating or ink compositions, which are in turn useful for marking articles for identification/authentication purposes. Also provided is a method for invisibly marking such articles and a method for detecting and sorting articles by utilizing the near infrared flourophoric ink or coating compositions.

Water-dissipatable polyesters and amides containing near infrared fluorescent compounds copolymerized therein

This invention concerns thermoplastic polyester molding compositions containing iron oxides, particularly Fe 2 O 3 which compositions exhibit markedly reduced heat up times and are especially useful in molding operations such as blow molding of beverage bottles. The polyester polymer may have incorporated therein by copolymerization certain anthraquinone dyes having functional groups which condense during polymerization into the polyester chain. The dye moieties are thermally stable at the polymer processing temperatures and are colorfast and nonextractable from the polymer.

Thermoplastic polyester molding compositions

A powder coating composition particularly useful in coating unprimed substrates which comprises a particulate form of a carboxylated polyolefin. The carboxylated polyolefin is prepared by reacting a polyolefin with an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid component. The carboxylated polyolefin has a saponification number of about 2 to about 12. The carboxylated polyolefin also has either a melt flow of from about 15 to about 175 g./10 minutes at 230°C. or a melt index of 5 to 75 at 190°C. The particulate form has a particle size of less than 20 mesh.

A graft copolymer of normally solid polypropylene and from about 0.2 to about 1.5 percent (0.4 to 0.8 percent being preferred) by weight based on the polypropylene of unsaturated acid component (monomer), said copolymer having a melt flow of from about 15 to about 175 g./10 minutes at 230*C.
