A method of resistance-welding two laminates each having a basic structure of a metal layer/a thermally softenable insulating layer/a metal layer, which allows welding with excellent welding strength and good outer appearance of a welded spot. In this method, two laminates are prepared in which each metal layer has a thickness of 0.02 to 0.5 mm, and a ratio of the total thickness of the metal layers of each laminate to the thickness of the laminate falls within a range between 1/3 and 2/3. Electrodes held at a temperature above the softening temperature of the insulating layers are urged against the laminates to soften the insulating layers and so bring the metal layers into contact with each other and to resistance-weld the laminates.

A computer system module includes a central processing unit (CPU), a floating-point accelerator (FPA), a read/write buffer (RWB), cache memory, a clock generator, buffers, and reset logic. The signal composition of the module includes: Configuration Buffer Enable (CfgEn); Page Write (PgWrt); Block Match (BlkMtch); Byte Write Mask (WrMsk); and Test Enable (TestEn). The layout of the various components on a printed circuit board (PCB) minimizes transmission line effects, such as transmission line delay (t D ) and signal reflections, by keeping trace lengths as short as possible, and no line terminations are required. A heat sink (heat spreader) is provided for critical semiconductor devices, such as the CPU and the FPA. The heat sink includes a broad flat section and a button protruding from a surface thereof. An unpackaged device is mounted to the button, with a thermally and electrically conductive adhesive, and is inserted through a hole in the PCB. The broad flat section of the heat sink is mounted to one side of the PCB, and connections to the die are made with bond wires to a conductive layer on the other side of the PCB. The heat sink is advantageously employed for biasing the semiconductor device.

Computer system module assembly

A plasma arc torch is provided which has a very long electrode lifetime, even if the number of times that an arc is generated and stopped is great. Improper electric discharge can be effectively prevented, and the lifetime can be increased due to the excellent resistance to heat. For this purpose, a metallic layer is provided in the portion where a pilot arc is generated, and the metallic layer contains at least one metal selected from the group consisting of gold and silver. The metallic layer is provided on the surface of the electrode holder, or on both of a surface of the electrode holder and a surface of the nozzle. Further, at least one of the electrode holder and the nozzle can be formed of aluminum or an aluminum alloy, and after the formation, an anodic oxide film can be formed on the surface thereof.

Plasma arc torch

A method of making a male resistance welding electrode includes a forward extrusion step in which the shank portion (12) of the electrode is partially formed by extruding a cut-off billet of dispersion strengthened copper over a pin (24) in a first die (20,). Subsequently, the preform billet (28) produced in the first die (20) is inserted into a second die which defines a tapered shank cavity region around a central pin (42) and a larger cavity region from which the head portion of the electrode is ultimately formed. The shank portion (12) of the electrode is formed and the head portion worked substantially by the application of pressure to the preform billet (28) by a first forming member (50). Final forming occurs when a second forming member applies pressure to the head of the electrode while the electrode remains in the second die. If desired, a small nose portion may be formed on the tip of the electrode by the second forming member and subsequently removed in a machining or cutting operation, eliminating surface irregularities in the electrode head portion surface.

Method of making a male resistance welding electrode

An apparatus and process for depositing metal from one conductor to another by electrode deposition. One conductor, the electrode, may remain in contact with the other conductor, the workpiece, as the electrode is continuously oscillated about a central electrode axis. Short duration, high amperage charges are directed through the oscillating electrode and the workpiece. The charge duration is controlled by the charging rate of a capacitor in a charging circuit. The rate of capacitor discharge is prescribed by an independently triggered thyristor. Extremely short duration discharges at a high discharge frequency results in deposition of the electrode material onto the workpiece.

Apparatus for transfer of metallic materials by electric discharge

This invention relates to a new type of resistance welding composite electrode which is disposable utilizing an inexpensive metal or alloy having good electrical and thermal conductivity as a holder, and a metal or alloy also having good electrical and thermal conductivity and in addition good strength at resistance welding operating temperatures for the insert tip.
