The present invention generally relates to the field of pharmaceutical sciences. More specifically, the present invention includes apparatus and devices for the preparation of pharmaceutical formulations containing large diameter synthetic membrane vesicles, such as multivesicular liposomes, methods for preparing such formulations, and the use of specific formulations for therapeutic treatment of subjects in need thereof. Formation and use of the pharmaceutical formulations containing large diameter synthetic membrane vesicles produced by using the apparatus and devices for therapeutic treatment of subjects in need thereof is also contemplated.

Method for formulating large diameter synthetic membrane vesicles

Described herein are devices and techniques for spray drying a fluid to produce a dried powder. Assemblies include a spray drying head attachable to a gas supplier and a liquid sample, such as a standard unit of blood product. The spray drying head can be adapted to provide an aerosolized flow of liquid sample exposed to a drying gas. The assembly also includes a drying chamber adapted to separate the aerosolized flow of liquid sample into a dried powder and humid air. The assembly can be disposable, provided in a sterilized kit and having simplified attachments allowing quick connect and disconnect from the gas and liquid sample. Separation of the powder from the humid air exiting the drying chamber occurs within a filtered collection bag. In some embodiments, one or more of the drying chamber and collection bag are formed form a thin-walled, collapsible material.

In various embodiment, the formulation includes vancomycin HC1 (10-20%) and one or more of the following PEG (0-5%), mannitol (0-5%), ethanol (0-10%), and a citrate buffer. Spray-dried blood products and methods of making same

The present invention relates to a spray drying system provided with a gas filtering system, which system is intended for use in the pharmaceutical industry for aseptic production of sterile pharmaceutical products or in other industries e.g. production of food, where an intake of sterile air for the drying process is necessary. The spray drying system for providing a particulate material comprises a spray drying chamber (3), after treatment equipment (4, 5) placed downstream of the spray drying chamber and a process gas heater (2) placed upstream in relation to the spray drying chamber (3), wherein an inlet filter (1) capable of removing microorganisms at a temperature below 140 °C, is placed upstream of the process gas heater (2) and that the process gas heater (2) is a non-flaking heater.

The present invention relates to a spray drying system provided with a neutralizing system, which system is intended for use in the pharmaceutical industry or in other industries, where the product is e.g. infectious, toxic or highly reactive and constitutes a risk for the surroundings and/or a health risk to people handling the product. The spray drying system comprises a spray drying chamber (1) comprising a drying chamber (1) provided with an atomizer device (17), followed by units (2, 3) for collecting of product powder and means (8) for cleaning the exhaust gas, wherein an atomization device (16) connected to a vessel (13) containing a neutralizer agent is placed upstream of the drying chamber (1). The invention also relates to a method which method comprises the following steps: i) sterilizing the spray drying system if the process has to be conducted under aseptic conditions, ii) processing by drying a fluid feed added to a drying chamber (1) through one or more atomization nozzle(s) (16), iii) neutralizing comprising adding a neutralizing agent upstream of the drying chamber (1), iv) cleaning the spray drying system.
