An electric motor having a snap-together construction without the use of separate fasteners. The construction of the motor removes additive tolerances for a more accurate assembly. The motor is capable of programming and testing after final assembly and can be non-destructively disassembled for repair or modification. The motor is constructed to inhibit the ready entry of water into the motor housing and to limit the effect of any water which manages to enter the housing.

An inside out electric motor includes a rotor having an interior surface defining an interior space and a magnetic element mounted on the rotor. The motor also includes a stator having a bobbin. The bobbin has a bearing positioned at a central axis of the bobbin. The bearing rotatably engages the rotor to permit the rotor to freely rotate with respect to the stator. The bobbin also has a pole member molded into the bobbin so that an end of the pole member is spaced radially inward from and at least partially aligned with the magnetic element, and a winding wound around the bobbin so that the winding passes adjacent the pole member.

Electric motor with ice out protection

A motor powered by a dc power source has a stator having a single phase winding. A power switching circuit of the motor has power switches for selectively connecting the dc power source to the single phase winding. A permanent magnet rotor in magnetic coupling relation to the stator drives a fan. A position sensor on the stator detects the position of the rotor and provides a position signal indicating the detected position. A control circuit including a microprocessor responsive to the position signal and connected to the power switching circuit selectively commutates the power switches to commutate the single phase winding as a function of the position signal.

Programmable electric motor and method of assembly

A tandem Coil armature in which a pair of spaced-apart field coils [91,92] are wound on bobbins [12,14] mounted within a set of magnetic core pieces [16,18,20,22]. Two L-shaped conductors [27,28] pass through passageways through the core pieces and connect the windings to slip-rings [72,74]. Insulated conductor carriers [31,32,37,38] sized to mate with passageways and recesses in the core pieces support the L-shaped conductors and electrically insulate them from the magnetic core piece material. The core pieces are mounted for rotation with the rotor shaft [10] and include interleaved claws at their periphery which form the rotors magnetic poles.
