Journal ArticleDOI

Optimal determination of rheological parameters for Herschel-Bulkley drilling fluids and impact on pressure drop, velocity profiles and penetration rates during drilling

TL;DR: In this article, an optimal procedure is proposed whereby the best value of the yield stress is estimated using the Golden Section search methodology while the fluid consistency and fluid behavior indices are determined with linear regression on the transformed rheometric data.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental study and predictions of pressure losses of fluids modeled as Herschel–Bulkley in concentric and eccentric annuli in laminar, transitional and turbulent flows

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors presented experimental data for the flow of bentonite-water dispersions, modeled as Herschel-Bulkley fluids, for the pressure loss at different flow rates covering laminar, transitional and turbulent flow regimes, while flowing in concentric and fully eccentric annuli.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modeling rheological behavior of bentonite suspensions as Casson and Robertson–Stiff fluids using Newtonian and true shear rates in Couette viscometry

TL;DR: In this paper, the Robertson-Stiff model and the Casson model were used to determine whether they can describe the rheology of aqueous bentonite suspensions and the results showed that both models describe well the experimental data of these bentonite suspension with good statistical indicators.
Journal ArticleDOI

Yield stress of water–bentonite dispersions

TL;DR: In this article, yield stress of aqueous bentonite dispersions was determined at two concentrations, with two bentonites, over a range of pH values, with the vane technique and by extrapolation of the full rheograms, derived with concentric cylinder viscometer, fitted to Herschel-Bulkley and to Casson models.
Journal ArticleDOI

Laminar, transitional and turbulent flow of Herschel–Bulkley fluids in concentric annulus

TL;DR: An integrated approach for the flow of Herschel-Bulkley fluids in a concentric annulus, modelled as a slot, covering the full range of flow types, laminar, transitional, and turbulent flows, is presented in this paper.
