A system for displaying a graphical indication of a proximately located device is disclosed. When a mobile terminal (e.g., a mobile telephone) equipped with short-range communications (e.g., Bluetooth or wi-fi) as well as conventional long-range communications capabilities comes within range of set top box (e.g., a digital broadcast receiver), the set top box (STB) overlays an icon over the broadcast screen image indicating that a mobile terminal is present that can be used as a back channel to the cable operator. The overlaid icon may be presented in differing colors to indicate various characteristics of the mobile terminal, e.g., a type of the mobile terminal (phone vs. PDA) or a capability of the mobile terminal (e.g., ability to establish a GPRS or other data connection). A user of the STB can then use interactive services offered by the cable operator, and deliver interactive selections and commands to the cable operator via the mobile terminal back channel.

The present invention relates to methods and devices that allow for different types of transportation of data packets (6) in conjunction with a home base station (1). Traffic arriving in the home base station (1) from a mobile terminal (2) connected to the home base station (1) can be transported either via a core network (15) of a mobile telecommunications system or by means of local transportation, which implies that the traffic is forwarded to a local node (4) in a local network (20) without passing the core network (15). The home base station (1) examines data packets (6) that are received from the mobile terminal (1) and determines the appropriate type of transportation for each data packet (6). Thus it is not required for traffic that is destined for local nodes (4) to pass the core network (15), which allows for efficient traffic forwarding with several benefits such as offloading the core network (15).

The access network for a cellular wireless communication system includes home gateways (5) placed in customer premises and providing wireless links to mobile stations, and a private operator network (20). The private operator network includes base station control units (22), security gateways (21) and a home gateway management server (26). The security gateway has a secure interface for establishing secure tunnels for communication with home gateways through a broadband public network (6). Each home gateway communicates via the security gateway with the home gateway management server of the private operator network to obtain an address of one of the base station control units allocated to the home gateway. The base transceiver station included in a home gateway interfaces with the allocated base station control unit via the private operator network and a secure tunnel with the security gateway.

Aspects of a method and system for data processing in a device with integrated set-top-box and femtocell functionality are provided. Data may be received via an integrated femtocell and set-top-box device and may be synchronously processed, utilizing a common clock, to perform one or more femtocell functions and/or set-top-box functions. The common clock may be derived from global navigation satellite system signals. The integrated femtocell and set-top-box device may convert the received data from a first to a second format. The converted data may be transmitted to a cellular enabled communication device via a cellular transmitter within said integrated femtocell and set-top-box device and/or to a multimedia device via a multimedia interface within said integrated femtocell and set-top-box device. The received data may comprise multimedia content. The integrated femtocell and set-top-box device may be operable to encode, decode, transcode, encrypt, decrypt, scramble, descramble, and present the received multimedia content.

Method and system for data processing in a device with integrated set-top-box and femtocell functionality

Aspects of a method and system for processing and delivery of multimedia content by an integrated femtocell and set-top-box device are provided. In this regard, a cellular enabled communication device may communicate its capabilities, preferences, and/or settings to an integrated femtocell and set-top-box device, wherein the integrated femtocell and set-top-box device may processes multimedia content for the cellular enabled communication device based on the capabilities, preferences, and/or settings of the cellular enabled communication device. Additionally, the cellular enabled communication device may receive the processed multimedia content from the integrated femtocell and set-top-box device by the cellular enabled communication device. The capabilities, preferences, and/or settings may comprise multimedia processing capabilities, preferences, and/or settings, communication capabilities, preferences, and/or settings, and/or power conditions, preferences, and/or settings. The integrated femtocell and set-top-box device may process the multimedia content to generate a plurality of subset datastreams.
