Personalities of octopuses (Octopus rubescens)

TL;DR: Large individual differences are commonly found in the behavior of octopuses, even in standardized situations, and the similarity of these factors to dimensions of personality in humans and individual differences in animals suggests there may be commonalities in such variation across phyla.
Journal ArticleDOI

Octopus senescence: the beginning of the end.

TL;DR: This study discusses the ecological implications of senescence in octopus and discusses the males after mating, the females while brooding eggs and after the eggs hatch.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ethics and invertebrates: a cephalopod perspective.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore three philosophical bases for attitudes to invertebrates, Contractar- ian/Kantian, Utilitarian, and Rights-based, and what they lead us to conclude about how we use and care for these animals.
Journal ArticleDOI

Early temperamental traits in an octopus (Octopus bimaculoides).

TL;DR: During their 3rd week of life, 73 Octopus bimaculoides were observed to test whether discrete behaviors could be grouped reliably to reflect dimensions of temperament, and results suggest a significant effect of relatedness on developing temperamental profiles of octopuses.
