Journal ArticleDOI
Upper-crustal strength inferred from stress measurements to 6 km depth in the KTB borehole
Mark D. Zoback,R. Apel,J. Baumgärtner,M. Brudy,Rolf Emmermann,B. Engeser,Karl Fuchs,W. Kessels,H. Rischmüller,Fritz Rummel,Lev Vernik +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors report estimates of the magnitude of in situstresses to 6 km depth in the KTB borehole in southern Germany, and suggest that plate-driving forces in the continental lithosphere in this part of western Europe are transmitted principally through the upper crust.

Toward establishing an international continental scientific drilling program
Mark D. Zoback,Rolf Emmermann +1 more
TL;DR: The International Continental Scientific Drilling Program (ICDP) as discussed by the authors is intended to complement the highly successful Ocean Drilling program and would operate on a similar scale, and is a joint program of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG) and the International Lithosphere Program (ILSP).
