Journal ArticleDOI

Vancomycin Therapy for Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus

TL;DR: Vancomycin is effective but potentially toxic therapy for most serious infections due to methicillin-resistant S. aureus and in-vitro tests may not predict therapeutic efficacy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Is semiquantitative culture of central vein catheter tips useful in the diagnosis of catheter-associated bacteremia?

TL;DR: It is concluded that a semiquantitative culture technique is useful in the diagnosis of bacteremia associated with central vein catheters in critically ill patients in an intensive care unit.
Journal ArticleDOI

A national survey of antimicrobial resistance in Staphylococcus aureus in Australian teaching hospitals.

TL;DR: Isolates from blood cultures were slightly‐more susceptible to antimicrobial agents than were isolates from other body sites, and vancomycin remains the most important antistaphylococcal drug in areas where resistance to methicillin is common.
Journal ArticleDOI

Aeromonas septicemia: relationship of species and clinical features.

TL;DR: Thirteen patients with Aeromonas species septicemia seen at Westmead Hospital between 1983 and 1987 showed a varied pattern of resistance to other antibiotics tested, but all were susceptible to piperacillin 64 mg/L, imipenem 4 mg/ l, ciprofloxacin 1 mg/l, and amikacin 16mg/L.
Journal ArticleDOI

Systemic sepsis and intravenous devices. A prospective survey.
