In The Knowledge-Creating Company, Nonaka and Takeuchi provide an inside look at how Japanese companies go about creating this new knowledge organizationally. The authors point out that there are two types of knowledge: explicit knowledge, contained in manuals and procedures, and tacit knowledge, learned only by experience, and communicated only indirectly, through metaphor and analogy. U.S. managers focus on explicit knowledge. The Japanese, on the other hand, focus on tacit knowledge. And this, the authors argue, is the key to their success--the Japanese have learned how to transform tacit into explicit knowledge. To explain how this is done--and illuminate Japanese business practices as they do so--the authors range from Greek philosophy to Zen Buddhism, from classical economists to modern management gurus, illustrating the theory of organizational knowledge creation with case studies drawn from such firms as Honda, Canon, Matsushita, NEC, Nissan, 3M, GE, and even the U.S. Marines. For instance, using Matsushita's development of the Home Bakery (the world's first fully automated bread-baking machine for home use), they show how tacit knowledge can be converted to explicit knowledge: when the designers couldn't perfect the dough kneading mechanism, a software programmer apprenticed herself withthe master baker at Osaka International Hotel, gained a tacit understanding of kneading, and then conveyed this information to the engineers. In addition, the authors show that, to create knowledge, the best management style is neither top-down nor bottom-up, but rather what they call "middle-up-down," in which the middle managers form a bridge between the ideals of top management and the chaotic realities of the frontline. As we make the turn into the 21st century, a new society is emerging. Peter Drucker calls it the "knowledge society," one that is drastically different from the "industrial society," and one in which acquiring and applying knowledge will become key competitive factors. Nonaka and Takeuchi go a step further, arguing that creating knowledge will become the key to sustaining a competitive advantage in the future. Because the competitive environment and customer preferences changes constantly, knowledge perishes quickly. With The Knowledge-Creating Company, managers have at their fingertips years of insight from Japanese firms that reveal how to create knowledge continuously, and how to exploit it to make successful new products, services, and systems.

Corporate Knowledge Management (CKM) provides ground for a conceptual study on its impact on the firm's innovation capability. Recent research literatures have pointed to CKM system as a leveraging tool for corporate operational excellence. CKM has also emerged as a new management discipline and is attracting interest among researchers, academicians and managers. Being a new discipline, there is still little guidance in the literature explaining the relationship of CKM with the firm's innovation capability. This work proposes a conceptual model of relationship between CKM and innovation capability, with special focus on corporate firms. The major factors are presented and the directions for future empirical research are suggested based on the proposed model.

Relationship between corporate knowledge management and the firm's innovation capability

Information and communication technology has become the heart of banking sector, while banking industry is a heart of every robust economy, if it collapses so will the economy and it is absolutely evident from current recession in  European banks crises, and in turn. The effect of globalisation, competition and innovation in the banking industry by its providers to offer their services makes it essential to understand how various aspects of consumer behaviour affect the innovation and respond to customer service delivery. Within this context this paper has undergone a critical literature review of previous researchers with an objective to examine the impact of Information and Communication Technology on Banks performance and customer service delivery, this paper also consists of a critical review of peer reviewed, scholarly and organizational literature regarding the impact of ICT on banks’ performance to examine if banks have successfully achieved effective customer’s service delivery, by providing high level of customer service through online delivery channel, besides operating cost minimization and revenue maximization.

The Impact of Information and Communication Technology on Banks’ Performance and Customer Service Delivery in the Banking Industry

Structural equation modeling (SEM) is a versatile statistical modeling tool which uses in the social sciences research. Recently, in Library and Information Science (LIS) environment, structural equation modeling has gained popularity across many disciplines, due to its generality and flexibility. Its estimation techniques, modeling capabilities and breadth of application are expanding rapidly. This paper reported a structural equation modeling through an Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) result, which involves 300 lead users at six selected Malaysian university libraries through survey. The decision of how many factors to retain is a critical component of exploratory factor analysis. Evidence is presented that parallel analysis is one of the most accurate factor retention methods. SPSS 20 was utilized to analyze the factor analysis data. In this regards, the results of EFA could provide empirical evidence of each hypotheses construct. It is hoped that the EFA results could be used to level Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) to perform full Structural Equation Modeling.

Factor Retention Decisions in Exploratory Factor Analysis Results: A Study Type of Knowledge Management Process at Malaysian University Libraries

Human development and human welfare are important ends in Islamic economic development, and hence the need to focus on a broader approach, in evaluating the condition of people in society. In Muslim societies, poverty is still pervasive partly due to the poor have been excluded from the financial system. The main objective of this study is to explore the conceptual framework on the role of Islamic micro-finance in improving human development. The methodology of this study is based on analysis of relevant documents. The findings of the study indicate that Islamic micro-finance is a growing market niche with a comprehensive approach towards human empowerment, increased income and well-being. The income generated by the clients is utilized to improve health conditions and the educational level of children. Zakat and Awqaf institutions are regaining their momentum towards socio-economic relevance. These institutions are requisite for generating community assets, productive capacity building, wealth creation and knowledge and skills that will enhance the technical standing of entrepreneurs. This approach towards financial inclusion could bring improvements in human capital development, education and skills development, better provision of physical capital and wider access to micro-credit for the productive poor.

The Role of Islamic Micro-finance in Enhancing Human Development in Muslim Countries

Knowledge management (KM) has emerged as a new discipline in managing organization. It plays important roles in establishing long term internal strength and supporting external competitive advantage. The purpose of this study is to gauge the level of KM practices in MSC status organizations. It also shows relationship between demography of respondents with KM influential factors in those organizations. Survey question which consists of 4 main KM influential factors were distributed. Results of 121 data sets have been collected from 4 MSC-status organizations. Mean score and One Way ANOVA are applied to identify the level of KM practices. This also identifies the relation between the demography and KM factors. It is found out that KM practices in MSC status organizations are at medium level. There are significant differences in KM practices with respect to age of respondents and job designation. It can be concluded that sufficient attention should be given to culture, information technology, organization structure and people to achieve success in KM practices.
