The formation of densely crosslinked networks by chain crosslinking photopolymerization is discussed in relation to selected applications in the electronics industry. All of these applications make use of the high speed and of the latitude to meet other requirements by variation of the chemical structure of the monomers. The selection comprises:

Network formation by chain crosslinking photopolymerization and some applications in electronics

A spoolable composite tube capable of being spooled onto a reel for storage and for use in oil field applications. The spoolable tube exhibits unique anistropic characteristics that provide improved burst and collapse pressures, increased tensile strength, compression strength, and load carrying capacity, while still remaining sufficiently bendable to be spooled onto a reel in an open bore configuration. The spoolable composite tube can include an inner liner, an interface layer, fiber composite layers, a pressure barrier layer, and an outer protective layer. The fiber composite layers can have a unique triaxial braid structure.

Composite spoolable tube

Compositions are provided which contain (a) one or more polysiloxanes comprising at least one reactive functional group; a plurality of particles; and, optionally, one or more curing agents comprising at least one functional group that is reactive with any reactive functional group of polysiloxane (a). Additionally, a process for applying the multi-component composite coatings described above to a substrate and coated substrates are provided. A process for preparing the coating compositions also is provided. The multi-component composite coating compositions of the invention provide highly scratch resistant color-plus-clearcoatings capable of retaining scratch resistance after weathering.

Coating compositions having improved scratch resistance, coated substrates and methods related thereto

A powder coating composition of the invention comprises a film-forming polymeric component having a d(v,50) in the range of from 25 to 50 microns or a d(v,70) in the range of from 25 to 70 microns, which composition incorporates by dry-blending at least one appearance-modifying additive component and a further component comprising wax-coated silica or consisting of alumina together with aluminium hydroxide. The appearance-modifying additive may be a gloss-reducing component, a texturing component, a metallic or mica component, a colouring pigment, or a further film-forming polymeric material compatible with the first film-forming polymeric material and differing in colouration therefrom, and the further additive may be alumina together with aluminium hydroxide or wax-coated silica together with alumina and/or with aluminium hydroxide or wax-coated silica. Preferably, no more than 70 % by volume of the particles in the film-forming polymeric material are less than 50 microns. A kit of the invention comprises the individual additive components prior to mixing. The kit allows for the flexibl production of a variety of finishes from a gloss powder coating composition, for example a matt or textured or metallic or sparkle finish or a matt textured finish, a matt metallic finish, an antique finish or a contrast texture or metallic sparkle finish.

A color-plus-clear coating system is disclosed. A pigmented or colored base coat is first applied to a substrate followed by the application of a transparent top coat to the base coat. The transparent top coat composition is a liquid crosslinkable composition comprising a polyepoxide and a polyacid curing agent. The polyepoxide-polyacid curing agent in the transparent top coat provides a composite coating with outstanding gloss and distinctness of image making the composite coating particularly useful as an automotive top coat.

A color-plus-clear coating system is disclosed. A pigmented or colored base coat is first applied to a substrate followed by the application of a transparent top coat to the base coat. Either the transparent top coat, the base coat or both the top coat and base coat compositions are crosslinkable compositions comprising a polyepoxide and a polyacid curing agent which comprises a half-ester formed from reacting an acid anhydride with a polyol. The polyepoxide-polyacid curing agent in the transparent top coat provides a composite coating with outstanding gloss and distinctness of image making the composite coating particularly useful as an automotive top coat.

Color plus clear coatings employing polyepoxides and polyacid curing agents

EPOXY RESINS ARE BLENDED WITH METAL SALT COMPLEXES OF IMIDAZOLES TO FORM COMPOSITIONS WHICH REMAIN IN THE UNCURED STATE FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME AT ROOM TEMPERATURE AND CURE CONVENIENTLY AT ELEVATED TEMPERATURES. THESE EPOXY RESIN COMPOSITIONS MAY BE USED AS COATINGS, ADHESIVES, POTTING COMPOUNDS, CASTINGS AND LAMINATES.

Disclosed is a liquid coating composition, useful for making a chip resistant coating, comprising a binder of: a first and a second urethane resin each containing terminal, reactive ethylenically unsaturated groups. Each urethane resin is prepared by reacting components comprising (A) an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer which is the product of reacting an organic polyisocyanate with an organic polyol with (B) an isocyanate reactive group-containing unsaturated monomer selected from hydroxyalkyl acrylates, hydroxyalkyl methacrylates and hydroxyalkyl acrylamides. The organic polyol for the first urethane resin has a hydroxyl functionality of 3 or more; the organic polyol for the second urethane resin has a hydroxyl functionality of less than three; and the average functionality of the polyols utilized for the first and second urethane resins is less than three. Also disclosed is a method of making a cured chip resistant, coating.
