Legacy encryption systems depend on sharing a key (public or private) among the peers involved in exchanging an encrypted message. However, this approach poses privacy concerns. The users or service providers with the key have exclusive rights on the data. Especially with popular cloud services, control over the privacy of the sensitive data is lost. Even when the keys are not shared, the encrypted material is shared with a third party that does not necessarily need to access the content. Moreover, untrusted servers, providers, and cloud operators can keep identifying elements of users long after users end the relationship with the services. Indeed, Homomorphic Encryption (HE), a special kind of encryption scheme, can address these concerns as it allows any third party to operate on the encrypted data without decrypting it in advance. Although this extremely useful feature of the HE scheme has been known for over 30 years, the first plausible and achievable Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) scheme, which allows any computable function to perform on the encrypted data, was introduced by Craig Gentry in 2009. Even though this was a major achievement, different implementations so far demonstrated that FHE still needs to be improved significantly to be practical on every platform. Therefore, this survey focuses on HE and FHE schemes. First, we present the basics of HE and the details of the well-known Partially Homomorphic Encryption (PHE) and Somewhat Homomorphic Encryption (SWHE), which are important pillars for achieving FHE. Then, the main FHE families, which have become the base for the other follow-up FHE schemes, are presented. Furthermore, the implementations and recent improvements in Gentry-type FHE schemes are also surveyed. Finally, further research directions are discussed. This survey is intended to give a clear knowledge and foundation to researchers and practitioners interested in knowing, applying, and extending the state-of-the-art HE, PHE, SWHE, and FHE systems.

A Survey on Homomorphic Encryption Schemes: Theory and Implementation

VANet security challenges and solutions: A survey

The migration to wireless network from wired network has been a global trend in the past few decades. The mobility and scalability brought by wireless network made it possible in many applications. Among all the contemporary wireless networks, Mobile Ad hoc NETwork (MANET) is one of the most important and unique applications. On the contrary to traditional network architecture, MANET does not require a fixed network infrastructure; every single node works as both a transmitter and a receiver. Nodes communicate directly with each other when they are both within the same communication range. Otherwise, they rely on their neighbors to relay messages. The self-configuring ability of nodes in MANET made it popular among critical mission applications like military use or emergency recovery. However, the open medium and wide distribution of nodes make MANET vulnerable to malicious attackers. In this case, it is crucial to develop efficient intrusion-detection mechanisms to protect MANET from attacks. With the improvements of the technology and cut in hardware costs, we are witnessing a current trend of expanding MANETs into industrial applications. To adjust to such trend, we strongly believe that it is vital to address its potential security issues. In this paper, we propose and implement a new intrusion-detection system named Enhanced Adaptive ACKnowledgment (EAACK) specially designed for MANETs. Compared to contemporary approaches, EAACK demonstrates higher malicious-behavior-detection rates in certain circumstances while does not greatly affect the network performances.

MANETs have unique characteristics like dynamic topology, wireless radio medium, limited resources and lack of centralized administration, as a result, they are vulnerable to different types of attacks in different layers of protocol stack. Each node in a MANET is capable of acting as a router. Routing is one of the aspects having various security concerns. In this paper, we will present survey of common Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks on network layer namely Wormhole attack, Black hole attack and Gray hole attack which are serious threats for MANETs. We will also discuss some proposed solutions to detect and prevent these attacks. As MANETs are widely used in many vital applications, lots of research work has to be done to find efficient solutions against these DoS attacks that can work for different routing protocols.

DoS Attacks in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks: A Survey

Cervical cancer is one of the fastest growing global health problems and leading cause of mortality among women of developing countries. Automated Pap smear cell recognition and classification in early stage of cell development is crucial for effective disease diagnosis and immediate treatment. Thus, in this article, we proposed a novel internet of health things (IoHT)-driven deep learning framework for detection and classification of cervical cancer in Pap smear images using concept of transfer learning. Following transfer learning, convolutional neural network (CNN) was combined with different conventional machine learning techniques like K nearest neighbor, naive Bayes, logistic regression, random forest and support vector machines. In the proposed framework, feature extraction from cervical images is performed using pre-trained CNN models like InceptionV3, VGG19, SqueezeNet and ResNet50, which are fed into dense and flattened layer for normal and abnormal cervical cells classification. The performance of the proposed IoHT frameworks is evaluated using standard Pap smear Herlev dataset. The proposed approach was validated by analyzing precision, recall, F1-score, training–testing time and support parameters. The obtained results concluded that CNN pre-trained model ResNet50 achieved the higher classification rate of 97.89% with the involvement of random forest classifier for effective and reliable disease detection and classification. The minimum training time and testing time required to train model were 0.032 s and 0.006 s, respectively.

Internet of health things-driven deep learning system for detection and classification of cervical cells using transfer learning

Homomorphic encryption is the encryption scheme which means the operations on the encrypted data. Homomorphic encryption can be applied in any system by using various public key algorithms. When the data is transferred to the public area, there are many encryption algorithms to secure the operations and the storage of the data. But to process data located on remote server and to preserve privacy, homomorphic encryption is useful that allows the operations on the cipher text, which can provide the same results after calculations as the working directly on the raw data. In this paper, the main focus is on public key cryptographic algorithms based on homomorphic encryption scheme for preserving security. The case study on various principles and properties of homomorphic encryption is given and then various homomorphic algorithms using asymmetric key systems such as RSA, ElGamal, Paillier algorithms as well as various homomorphic encryption schemes such as BrakerskiGentry-Vaikuntanathan (BGV), Enhanced homomorphic Cryptosystem (EHC), Algebra homomorphic encryption scheme based on updated ElGamal (AHEE), Non-interactive exponential homomorphic encryption scheme (NEHE) are investigated.

Survey of Various Homomorphic Encryption algorithms and Schemes

Summary: In this era of wireless devices, Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) has become an indivisible part for communication for mobile devices. Therefore, interest in research of Mobile Ad-hoc Network has been growing since last few years. In this paper we have discussed some basic routing protocols in MANET like Destination Sequenced Distance Vector, Dynamic Source Routing, Temporally-Ordered Routing Algorithm and Ad-hoc On Demand Distance Vector. Security is a big issue in MANETs as they are infrastructure-less and autonomous. Main objective of writing this paper is to address some basic security concerns in MANET, operation of wormhole attack and securing the wellknown routing protocol Ad-hoc On Demand Distance Vector. This article would be a great help for the people conducting research on real world problems in MANET security.

MANET Routing Protocols and Wormhole Attack against AODV

Mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs) are pervasive autonomous networks that will play a vital role in future Industrial Internet-of-Things communication, where smart devices will be connected in a completely distributed manner. However, due to lack of infrastructure and absence of centralized administration, MANETs are shrouded with various security threats. Some internal mobile nodes in these resource constrained networks may compromise the routing mechanism in order to launch denial-of-service attacks to carry out distinct kinds of packet forwarding misbehaviors. In order to address this issue, in our previous paper, we devised a trusted routing scheme with pattern discovery (TRS-PD), which identifies packet dropping adversaries in advance by monitoring and analyzing their behavior during route discovery phase. In this paper, we perform sensitivity analysis of TRS-PD which is carried out by varying values of different parameters in distinct network scenarios in the existence of three distinct packet dropping attacks. In addition, this work summarizes the attack-pattern discovery mechanism, trust model, and routing mechanism adopted by TRS-PD in order to counter the adversaries which follow certain attack patterns along with other adversaries. Experiments conducted with network simulator-2 indicate the correct choices of parameter values for distinct network scenarios.
