Provided is a V-belt type continuously variable transmission constructed such as to accommodate in a transmission case a transmission mechanism including: a drive shaft connected to an engine flywheel and provided with a drive pulley; a driven shaft provided with a driven pulley; and a V-belt wound around between the drive pulley and the driven pulley, the V-belt type continuously variable transmission comprising: an air intake chamber for introducing cooling air to surroundings of the drive shaft; and a flywheel cover for covering at least a periphery of the flywheel located in the air intake chamber.

A control device of a lock-up clutch of a torque converter interposed between a transmission and engine used with a vehicle, is disclosed. The control device has a sensor which detects an input rotation speed to the torque converter, a sensor which detects an output rotation speed from the torque converter, a differential pressure control device which controls the differential pressure applied to the lock-up clutch, and a controller which sets a target slip rotation speed of the torque converter; calculates a real slip rotation speed which is a difference between the detected input rotation speed and the detected output rotation speed; and performs feedback control to determine the differential pressure applied to the lock-up clutch so that the real slip rotation speed coincides with the target slip rotation speed. The controller is programmed to: set the target slip rotation speed to a first target slip rotation speed determined from a vehicle running parameter; perform feedback control so that the real slip rotation speed coincides with the first target slip rotation speed; change over the first target slip rotation speed to a second target slip rotation speed according to an error between the first target slip rotation speed and the real slip rotation speed; after changing over, and perform feedback control so that the real slip rotation speed coincides with the second target slip rotation speed; wherein the first and second target slip rotation speeds are different functions of time.

Control of lock-up clutch

A method for operating a hybrid vehicle, particularly one that includes both a primary and an auxiliary power source. According to one exemplary embodiment, the method seeks to decouple or disassociate a driver's engagement of an accelerator pedal with activation of an auxiliary power source, such as an internal combustion engine. This way, if the driver aggressively engages the accelerator pedal while the hybrid vehicle is being propelled by a battery and an electrical motor, the method will delay activation of the internal combustion engine so that the two events do not appear to be linked or connected to one another. Delaying activation of the internal combustion engine while the electric motor is under a heavy stress load may also improve the drive quality of the hybrid vehicle.

A first orifice (128) is provided in a first fluid passage (122) upstream of a cooler (124), and a second orifice (130) is provided in a second fluid passage (118). The flowrates of hydraulic fluid flowing through the first and second fluid passages (122), (118) are regulated by the first and second orifices (128), (130), respectively, and are thus suppressed from becoming excessive. Also, the downstream side of the second fluid passage (118) is connected to the first fluid passage (122) between the first orifice (128) and the cooler (124), and a lubrication passage (132) is connected to the first fluid passage (122) downstream of the cooler (124). Accordingly, the lubrication passage (132) is a single passage and the cooler (124) and the lubrication passage (132) are arranged in series so the cooler flowrate and the lubrication flowrate are the same. As a result, the flowrate of hydraulic fluid that flows out from a secondary regulator valve (112) to the upstream side of an oil pump (28) can be increased.

A pattern, which enables regular control of the automatic transmission in normal operation and does not allow the lockup clutch to change from its released state to its engaged state, is selected for use from among plural combinations of signal pressures of the solenoid valves.
