A novel current-mode analog multiplier/divider, based on current controlled current differencing buffered amplifiers (CCCDBAs), is presented in this paper. The proposed circuit employs only two CCCDBAs without any external passive element requirements. It can work as either a multiplier or a divider, without changing its topology. In addition, the proposed circuit can work as a gain-controllable current amplifier. The circuit performances are depicted through PSPICE simulations. The simulated results show that, for plusmn1.5 V power supply, the total harmonic distortion is about 0.317% at 1 MHz, the -3 dB bandwidth is approximately 26.42 MHz, the maximum input range is about plusmn100 muA and the output current is minimally sensitive to temperature variations.

Analogue multiplier using compound pulse-time modulation

This paper presents a control design for single-phase power-factor-correction (PFC) converters using PWM-based multipliers. Multiplication between the input voltage and the output voltage compensator output is usually required for generating a reference for the input current in single-phase PFC control. Conventional PFC control ICs use linear multiplier circuits that have very limited operation range and are sensitive to noise. The proposed multiplier design converts the sensed input voltage into a constant-frequency pulse-width modulated (PWM) signal. The voltage compensator output is then integrated by an integrator with a reset switch controlled by the PWM signal, producing a sampled-data output which is proportional to the required multiplication of the two signals. The method can be applied to different PFC control methods and provides a more cost-effective implementation than digital control. The proposed design is demonstrated on a 500 W dual-boost single-phase PFC converter using nonlinear average current control.

Single-phase PFC control using PWM-based multipliers

A four-quadrant time-division analogue multiplier based on a pulse-interval amplitude-modulation (PIAM) technique is proposed. This multiplier is self-triggered and thus does not require an external triangular-wave generator for its operation, unlike other time-division multipliers. A practical circuit has been designed and tested. Experimental results agree closely with theory.
