A two-slot array antenna on a concentric sectoral cylindrical cavity excited by a coupling slot is investigated. The electromagnetic fields and Q factors for the first few modes of a concentric sectoral cylindrical cavity are presented. It shows that the appropriate mode for a slot array antenna on a concentric sectoral cylindrical cavity is the TM110 mode. The correlations between each mode distribution and the magnetic field distributions inside the cavity are presented. The antenna design and the parametric study of a two-slot array antenna on a concentric sectoral cylindrical cavity for a single sector are illustrated. Simulated results are validated by measurements. The results provide useful information for the design of a switched-beam slot array antenna on the concentric sectoral cylindrical cavities.

Design of a circumferential slot antenna on a sectoral cylindrical cavity excited by a probe

This paper presents the radiation characteristics of two-slot array antenna on a concentric sectoral cylindrical resonator excited by a coupling slot. The magnetic fields inside the sectoral cylindrical resonator for the first few modes are presented with sectoral angle of 60 degrees. It shows that the appropriate mode for a slot array antenna on a concentric sectoral cylindrical resonator is the TM110 mode. The radiation patterns of two-slot array antenna on a concentric sectoral cylindrical resonator for single sector are illustrated. The location of the coupling slot is considered to find the appropriate radiation pattern. The results provide useful information for the design of switched-beam array antenna on the concentric sectoral cylindrical resonators.

Radiation Characteristics of Two-Slot Array Antenna on a Concentric Sectoral Cylindrical Resonator Excited by a Coupling Slot

A method of moments/Green’s function (MoM/GF) technique in the space domain is used for the rigorous and fast analysis of cylindrically conformal slotted sectoral waveguide arrays (SSWGAs) in the presence of multilayered cylindrical dielectric radomes. Representing the slots by fictitious magnetic currents via the equivalence principle, the geometry is divided into two regions and separate GF representations for each region are developed to be used in conjunction with the MoM procedure. Particularly, in the region that constitutes the cylindrically stratified medium, the newly developed closed-form GF representations for magnetic currents are valid for all source and observation points, including the source region (where source and observation points are on the top of each other). Basic performance metrics of an SSWGA such as equivalent slot currents, S-parameters, radiation patterns in the presence of a multilayered cylindrical radome are presented to assess the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed technique.

Analysis of Slotted Sectoral Waveguide Arrays With Multilayered Radomes

An antenna for the base station of a mobile communication system is generally designed to have omnidirectional pattern to cover the service area in a cell site. A typical antenna is a microstrip array (such as circular array) which suffers from feeder loss. The slot array antenna is of interest due to its high efficiency. This paper presents the analysis of the input impedance of a sectoral cylindrical cavity-backed slot antenna fed by a probe. The method of moments plays a vital part in determining the impedance characteristics. The numerical results of the input impedance are illustrated and analyzed.
