The Belchatow, Poland, earthquakes of 1979 and 1980 induced by surface mining

TL;DR: In this article, five seismic events occurred between August 1979 and May 1980 in the Belchatow trench area in central Poland, where large brown-coal deposits have been surface-mined since 1976.
Journal ArticleDOI

A microearthquake survey in the Abu-Simbel area in Egypt

TL;DR: In this paper, a microearthquake survey was conducted jointly by Polish and Egyptian seismologists in the Abu-Simbel area, about 230 km upstream from the Aswan High Dam, and it was deduced that a deep fracture zone or deep fault extending in the NNE-SSW direction, 1-3 km wide and several kilometers deep, must be present to explain the observed effects of heavy attenuation and scattering of seismic waves under the array.
Journal ArticleDOI

Numerical simulation of ground acceleration spectra and accelerograms for engineering application

TL;DR: In this article, a numerical approach to the earthquake ground motion analysis is proposed for regions where no accelerograms are available, using Haskell matrix techniques, the response spectra of a layered substratum for SV waves were calculated and then multiplied by the spectra corresponding to Brune's type pulses.
