A stretchable polyaniline nanofiber temperature sensor array with an active matrix consisting of single-walled carbon nanotube thin-film transistors is demonstrated. The integrated temperature sensor array gives mechanical stability under biaxial stretching of 30%, and the resultant spatial temperature mapping does not show any mechanical or electrical degradation.

Stretchable Active Matrix Temperature Sensor Array of Polyaniline Nanofibers for Electronic Skin

In the present investigation, we have synthesized a polypyrrole films by chemical polymerization technique for the development of ammonia sensor. The polypyrrole films were synthesized in an aqueous acidic medium on glass substrate with mild oxidation of ferric chloride at temperature 29°C. The concentrations (molar) of monomer (pyrrole), oxidant (ferric chloride), and dopant (polyvinyl sulfonate) have been optimized for the uniform and porous surface morphology of the synthesized polypyrrole film. The synthesized films were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, ultraviolet-visible, and Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy. Ammonia gas sensing behavior of polypyrrole films was studied by using indigenously developed gas sensing chamber. The synthesized polypyrrole film with optimized process parameters shows excellent and reproducible response to low concentration (100 ppm) of ammonia gas. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

The Ppy–PVS-GOD biosensor for determination of glucose has been described. The enzyme, glucose oxidase (GOD) was immobilised by cross-linking via glutaraldehyde on a polypyrrole–polyvinyl sulphonate (Ppy–PVS) composite film. The Ppy–PVS film was electrochemically synthesized on indium–tin-oxide (ITO)-coated glass plate. We have synthesized Ppy–PVS film with 0.1 M pyrrole, 0.025 M PVS at 3.0 pH and 1 mA/cm 2 current density. The immobilization was done by cross-linking 2 mg/ml GOD via 0.1% glutaraldehyde at 0.1 M phosphate buffer with 7.0 pH. The synthesized composite films were characterized using galvanostatic electrochemical technique, electrical conductivity, UV–Vis spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The cross-linking of enzyme and porous morphology of the polymer film leads to high enzyme loading and an increase in lifetime, stability and fast response time of the enzyme electrode. Amperometric response was measured as a function of different concentration of glucose. It was observed that current increases with increasing glucose concentration in the range 1–50 mM.

Immobilization of GOD on electrochemically synthesized Ppy–PVS composite film by cross-linking via glutaraldehyde for determination of glucose

Novel electrically conducting composite materials consisting of poly(aniline) (PANI) nanoparticles dispersed in a poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)-g-poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) hydrogels were prepared within the polymer matrix by in situ polymerization of aniline. The conversion yield of aniline into PANI particles was determined gravimetrically while struc- tural confirmation of the synthesized polymer was sought by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), UV-visible analysis and X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique. Morphology and dimension of PANI particles embedded into the colored optically semi-transparent hydrogels were evaluated by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis. Electrical conductivity of composite hydrogels of different composition was determined by LCR meter while electroactive behavior of composite hydrogels swollen in electrolyte solution was investigated by Effective Bend Angle (EBA) measurements.

Preparation and characterization of electrically conductive composites of poly(vinyl alcohol)-g-poly(acrylic acid) hydrogels impregnated with polyaniline (PANI)

The influence of electrochemical process parameters on the conductivity of poly(N-methylpyrrole) films by galvanostatic method

H2SO4 doped polyaniline films were synthesized in aqueous acidic media. The polyaniline film deposited on platinum electrode exhibits highest conductivity. The conductivity of each H2SO4 doped polyaniline sample was determined by the four-probe technique. The current-voltage curve exhibits that polyaniline sample has an ohmic behaviour. Experiments were conducted to establish the conductivity of the sample from room temperature to 110°C. The current was set constant. It has been observed that at lower current as well as higher current conductivity of the polyaniline sample is due to the electrons transferred to the conduction band. It is observed that the concentration ratio of 0.2:1 of aniline and H2SO4 for synthesis of PANI film on platinum electrode shows good conductivity.
