The speed of sound and density in binary liquid mixture of diethyl carbonate + benzonitrile, + benzaldehyde have been determined at temperatures 298.15, 308.15 and 318.15 K over the whole composition range. The data have been utilized to estimate the excess adiabatic compressibility (β E ), excess intermolecular free length (Lf E ), excess speed of sound (u E ) at the above temperatures. The excess values have been found to be useful in estimating the strength of the interactions in the liquid mixtures.

Ultrasonic velocities (U), densities (ρ), and coefficient of viscosities (η) are measured for binary mixtures containing (i) p-chlorotoluene and (ii) benzene at 303.15 K, 308.15 K, 313.15 K and 318.15 K to understand the molecular interaction. Various acoustical parameters such as adiabatic compressibility (βad), free length (Lf), acoustic impedance (Z), free volume (Vf), molar volume (Vm), Rao’s constant (R), Wada’s constant (W) and internal pressure (πi), are calculated from the measured values of U, ρ, and η. The trend in acoustical parameters also substantiates to asses strong molecular interactions.

Acoustical studies of binary liquid mixtures of p-chlorotoluene in benzene at different temperatures

Recently, study of physical properties of the liquid mixtures, their nature and behavior with change in frequency, temperature or concentration has gained interest. In the present work, ultrasonic velocity and attenuation measurements have been carried out in the binary mixture of nitrobenzene and ethanol using pulse echo technique in the temperature range of 274.15K-308.15K maintaining the temperature of the sample with an accuracy of ±0.1°C. It is observed that the mixture of nitrobenzene and ethanol shows maximum absorption at 277.15K at 0.27 moles of Nitrobenzene in the binary mixture. Critical nature of the mixture revealed by ultrasonic absorption indicates the molecular interaction between two liquids and attributes due to the fluctuation in the concentration.

Ultrasonic propagation in critical mixture of nitrobenzene and ethanol

Investigations were made on the effect of temperature (20-70°C) on the physicochemical parameters like ultrasonic velocity, density, electrical conductivity and total soluble solids (TDS) of honey having various concentrations (100, 90, 80, 70 and 60 (w/w)%). Some other properties pH, refractive index, °Brix and moisture content were also measured at room temperature. Ultrasonic velocity, density, surface tension, bulk modulus and acoustic impedance were negatively influenced by temperature. However the other parameters increase with temperature. All the honey parameters except density were significantly varies with temperature and concentration at 5% level of significance. A good correlation was obtained between electrical conductivity and TDS.

Physicochemical Properties of Indian Honey at Different Concentrations and Temperatures

The wide spread use of 1,3,4-oxadiazoles as a scaffold in medicinal chemistry establishes this moiety as an important bioactive class of heterocycles. In the present study ultrasonic velocity (u), density (ρ) and viscosity (η) have been measured at frequency 2 MHz in the binary mixtures of 1,3,4oxadiazole derivatives in acetone at 303.15 K using ultrasonic interferometer technique. The measured value of ultrasonic velocity, density and viscosity have been used to estimate the acoustical parameters namely adiabatic compressibility (βad), relaxation time (τ), acoustic impedance (Zi), free length (L f), free volume (V f) and internal pressure (πi), with a view to investigate the nature and strength of molecular interactions. The obtained result support the occurrence of molecular association through hydrogen bonding in the binary liquid mixtures.

Acoustical studies on binary liquid mixtures of some 1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives with acetone at 303.15 K

The densities, viscosities and ultrasonic velocities of binary liquid mixtures of Isopropyl alcohol with acetophenone and methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) have been measured at temperatures 298.15 and 308.15 K over the entire range of mole fraction. From these data, acoustical parameters such as adiabatic compressibility (β), free volume (Vf) and free length (Lf) have been estimated using the standard relations. The results are interpreted in terms of molecular interactions present in the mixtures.
