Grain growth and chemical ordering in (Fe,Mn)3Si

We demonstrate the epitaxial growth of ferromagnetic full-Heusler alloy Fe2MnSi layers on group-IV semiconductor Ge(111) using molecular beam epitaxy at the growth temperatures of 130 and 200 °C. The Fe2MnSi/Ge(111) layers have an atomic-scale abrupt interface and include the ordered L21 phase. We also show ferromagnetic features with a saturation magnetization of ∼2.2 μB/f.u. and a Curie temperature of ∼210 K, which are nearly comparable to those of bulk Fe2MnSi.

Phase diagram, structures and magnetism of the FeMnP1-xSix-system

Effect of partial Mn substitution for Fe in Fe3Si on the structural, magnetic, transport, and magnetotransport properties has been studied. Mn substitution is found to induce a re-entrant antiferromagnetic phase at low temperatures. The increase in the antiferromagnetic exchange causes a gradual decrease in the Curie temperature and the saturation magnetization. Temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity data shows that the high temperature resistivity is dominated by electron-phonon scattering, while below the re-entry temperature (TR), electron-magnon scattering is dominant. These results are in agreement with the reported spin polarization studies and indicate that the reentrant behavior is detrimental to half metallicity. Application of a field causes negative magnetoresistance (MR) above TR. However, at 5 K, the magnetoresistance is found to be positive, with the magnitude increasing with x. Effect of Mn substitution on the magnetic and magneto-transport properties of Fe3−xMnxSi (0 ≤ x ≤ 1.25) alloys

Magnetic and crystallographic properties of the (FeMn)3Si system have been studied by X-ray and neutron diffraction magnetization resistivity and magnetoresistivity measurements. The single-phase alloys have been found to crystallize in the L21A structure and to have ferromagnetic properties at low Mn concentrations. At higher concentrations the alloys exhibit a more complex behaviour, having antiferromagnetic components below a temperature TR which is almost concentration independent. The resistivity showed anomalies at TR as well as at the Curie point. The variation of the magnetic moment on each site has been determined as a function of concentration and is discussed in terms of environmental changes occurring as a result of Mn additions.
