Magnetic phase transitions and the magnetothermal properties of gadolinium

TL;DR: A study of four Gd samples of different purities using ac susceptibility, magnetization, heat capacity, and direct measurements of the magnetocaloric effect in quasistatic and pulse magnetic fields revealed that all techniques yield the same value of the zero-field Curie temperature of 294(1) K as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental device for studying the magnetocaloric effect in pulse magnetic fields

TL;DR: In this article, a device for studying the magnetocaloric effect in pulsed magnetic fields up to 8 T was described, which was compared to that obtained by other experimental methods.
Book ChapterDOI

Magnetocaloric Properties of Gd3Al2

TL;DR: In this paper, the magnetocaloric effect of Gd 3 Al 2 was measured in quasi-static and pulsed fields up to 8 T and calculated from the temperature and magnetic field dependencies of the heat capacity, and the magnetization.
Book ChapterDOI

Magnetocaloric Effect in GdAl2 and Nd2Fe17

TL;DR: The magnetocaloric properties of GdAl2 and Nd2Fe17 have been determined by three methods: (1) measured directly in pulsed (∼0.2 s duration) and semi-static magnetic fields; (2) calculated from the heat capacity measured as a function of temperature in various constant magnetic fields, and (3) measured from magnetization measured as the function of magnetic field at various constant temperatures as discussed by the authors.
