Role of autotransplantation in treatment of other solid tumors.

Abstract: This article reviews the use of high-dose chemotherapy with autologous bone marrow support for a variety of solid tumors. A major feature of the vast majority of studies examined is the high response rates achieved with intensive therapy when compared with those reported with standard chemotherapy. If these rates can be obtained in patients with diseases refractory to standard therapy, then applying the same treatment earlier in the disease course may produce more durable antitumor effects.
