Journal ArticleDOI
First evidence that marine protected areas can work for marine mammals
Andrew M. Gormley,Andrew M. Gormley,Elisabeth Slooten,Steve Dawson,Richard J. Barker,William Rayment,Sam du Fresne,Stefan Bräger,Stefan Bräger +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors assess the effectiveness of marine protected areas (MPAs) in improving the survival rate of Hector's dolphin Cephalorhynchus hectori at Banks Peninsula.
Journal ArticleDOI
Kernel density estimates of alongshore home range of Hector's dolphins at Banks Peninsula, New Zealand
TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the home ranges of Hector's dolphins (Cepbalorhyncbus bectori) via coastal photo-ID surveys in the Banks Peninsula Marine Mammal Sanctuary (BPMMS) between 1985 and 2006.
Journal ArticleDOI
The effect of line-transect placement in a coastal distance sampling survey
TL;DR: In this article , the authors used simulation methods to assess the effect of line placement on the accuracy and precision of a line-transect survey for estimating dolphin abundance, and recommended the use of systematic line-placement, with the proviso that the estimate of CV(N) is likely to be overestimated by 10-28%.
