The early 2020 witnessed Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic followed by a nationwide lockdown in the whole history for the first time. The entire world had to go for nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of such contagious and deadly disease. In short, the coronavirus outbreak and the subsequent lockdown had created a storm in the world giving rise to change in public with respect to parameters like trust in the government institutions, civic engagement, and so on. In this raising dilemma, multiple countries have acknowledged the significance of trusting institutions, especially during lockdown. It is also widely accepted that lives of individuals had been undergoing change ever since the spread of COVID-19. Likewise, public's trust in the institutions is directly related to the civic engagement. Civic engagement is commonly understood as a phenomenon that develops a difference in an individual's civic life by combining values, skills, motivation, as well as knowledge. Different forms of civic engagement include national service, volunteering, societal services, and so forth. The main focus of this article is to examine the influence of COVID-19 outbreak on general attitude of the citizens of Malaysia and India, their trust on the governing institutions, and the civic engagement. In other words, this study tries to assess the impact of the pandemic on variables such as attitude toward the lockdown, trust in institutions, and civic engagement. For this, the study adopted cross-sectional community questionnaire survey in two countries-Malaysia and India. The respondents selected for the study was 1437. The respondent's demographics, attitude toward lockdown, trust in institutions, and civic engagement during the lockdown were collected by means of convenience sampling technique. Later the collected data were measured in terms of descriptive statistics and regression analysis. Findings of the study stated that public's trust in the institution can be increased by enhancing the civic activities and implementing policies that govern and build the society.

Analyzing the factors affecting the attitude of public toward lockdown, institutional trust, and civic engagement activities.

The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected the lives of people around the world in millions of ways . Due to this severe epidemic, all countries in the world have been affected by all aspects, mainly economic. It is widely discussed that the COVID-19 outbreak has affected the world economy. When considering this dimension, this study aims to examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the world economy, socio-economics, and sustainability. In addition, the research focuses on multiple aspects of social well-being during the pandemic, such as employment, poverty, the status of women, food security, and global trade. To this end, the study used time series and cross-sectional analysis of the data. The second-hand data used in this study comes from the websites of major international organizations. From the analysis of secondary data, the conclusion of this article is that the impact of the pandemic is huge. The main finding of the thesis is that the social economy is affected by the pandemic, causing huge losses in terms of economic well-being and social capital.

The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on socio-economic and sustainability.

The cervical cancer patient’s death rate can be minimized by accurate and early detection of cervical cancer (CC). One of the popular techniques called the Pap test or Pap smear is widely used for the early detection of CC. In the instance of CC detection, the manual analysis took more time. Existing approaches had a number of drawbacks, including low accuracy, increased computational complexity, higher feature dimensionality, poor reliability, and increased time consumption due to poor hyperparameter optimization. In this paper, we proposed MASO-optimized DenseNet 121 architecture for the early detection of cervical cancer. At first, different kinds of augmentation techniques such as horizontal flip, vertical flip, zooming, shearing, height shift, width shift, rotation, and brightness increase the number of training samples. The Mutation-based Atom Search Optimization (MASO) algorithm is established to optimize the hyperparameters in DenseNet 121 architecture such as the number of neurons in the dense layer, learning rate value, and the batch sizes. The proposed method effectively optimizes the hyperparameters inherent in the DenseNet 121 architecture, resulting in improved classification results while reducing computational complexity and data overfitting. Different kinds of performance metrics such as accuracy, specificity, sensitivity, precisions, recall, F-score, and confusion matrix evaluate the performance of MASO-optimized DenseNet 121 architecture for CC detection. A single normal class with three abnormal classes, namely Carcinoma, Light dysplastic, and Sever dysplastic, was selected from the Hervel dataset for experimental investigation. The proposed MASO-optimized DenseNet 121 architecture achieves 98.38% accuracy, 98.5% specificity, 98.83% sensitivity, 98.58% precision, 99.3% recall, and 98.25% F-score values than other existing methods.

An optimized deep learning model using Mutation-based Atom Search Optimization algorithm for cervical cancer detection

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to amplify the importance of social responsibility in supply chain finance to promote the “S” in environmental, social and governance (ESG) investing and and highlight key methods deployed to quantify and measure social impact.Design/methodology/approachThis paper provides an insightful exploratory study based on a framework for supply chain financing to accomplish ESG goals that is based on literature review, current policies and practitioner's observations.FindingsWith this paper, the authors have started the journey to discuss the importance to look at the social side of supply chain with a goal to attain and fulfill the ESG objectives and discuss different methodologies that can be deployed to translate qualitative information into quantitative data for ESG purposes.Research limitations/implicationsThe research focuses on the growing legal and regulatory focus on organizations to address the adverse impacts their supply chains have on environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) related issues. This research has brought in light methods to measure social impact within the supply chain that will help to accelerate the ESG objectives. A global lens will provide a holistic view of the ESG framework.Practical implicationsThe social responsibility framework for supply chain financing and identified methodologies will facilitate managerial decision making that will expedite the integration of “S” in the ESG.Originality/valueThis research highlights the criticality of looking at social aspects in ESG. The research also presents a social responsibility framework for supply chains to accomplish ESG goals.

Amplifying and promoting the “S” in ESG investing: the case for social responsibility in supply chain financing
