Use of biochar as bulking agent for the composting of poultry manure: Effect on organic matter degradation and humification

One of the most versatile and remunerative techniques for handling biodegradable solid wastes is composting. A large variety of such wastes of plant, animal, and synthetic origins can be gainfully composted, at scales varying from a household bin to a large industry. Compost also has an inexhaustible market as a soil conditioner and fertilizer. Apart from being a source of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and other nutrients for plants, compost is also believed to suppress soil-borne diseases in plants. These virtues make composting an ideal option for processing the enormous quantities of biodegradable solid wastes that are generated in the world. In this article, a review of the state of the art of compost science is presented, encompassing the history, the mechanism, the production, the characteristics, and the effects of composting. It is hoped that this effort would stimulate further interest in composting and in the appreciation of its benefits.

The calculation of time delay between a signal and its echo received at a microphone has been proven to be a useful parameter. Speech enhancement, speaker localization, speech and speaker recognition are few applications of TDE methods. We are implementing various methods for the estimation of time delay. These methods are implemented in MATLAB. The reason for choosing the MATLAB as the analysis and simulation tool is that it has more flexible choices to support the simulation and is easy to do modification or data recording. These methods are crosscorrelation (CC), phase transform (PHAT). Various time-delay estimation techniques based on the cross-correlation functions are compared through simulations and measurements. Their simulation results are compared in terms of computation complexity, hardware implementation, precision, and accuracy.

Performance Comparison of Adaptive Algorithms for Adaptive line Enhancer

The higher computational efficiency of the time difference of arrival (TDOA) based sound source localization makes it a preferred choice over steered response power (SRP) methods in real-time applications. However, unlike SRP, its implementation for multiple source localization (MSL) is not straight forward. It includes challenges as accurate feature extraction in unfavourable acoustic conditions, association ambiguity involved in mapping the feature extractions to the corresponding sources and complexity involved in solving the hyperbolic delay equation to estimate the source coordinates. Moreover, the dominating source and early reverberation make the detection of delay associated with the submissive sources further perplexing. Hence, this paper proposes a proficient three-step method for localizing multiple sources from delay estimates. In step 1, the search space region is partitioned into cubic subvolumes, and the delay bound associated with each one is computed. Hereafter, these subvolumes are grouped differently, such that whose associated TDOA bounds are enclosed by a specific delay interval, are clustered together. In step 2, initially, the delay segments and later each subvolume contained by the corresponding delay segment are traced for passing through estimated delay hyperbola. These traced volumes are updated by the weight to measure the likelihood of a source in it. The resultant generates the delay density map in the search space. In the final step, localization enhancement is carried out in the selected volumes using conventional SRP (C-SRP). The validation of the proposed approach is done by carrying out the experiments under different acoustic conditions on the synthesized data and, recordings from SMARD & Audio Visual 16.3 Corpus.
