Updated methodology to determine antioxidant capacity in plant foods, oils and beverages: Extraction, measurement and expression of results
Jara Pérez-Jiménez,Sara Arranz,María Tabernero,M. Elena Díaz Rubio,José C. E. Serrano,Isabel Goñi,Fulgencio Saura-Calixto +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, an updated methodology to determine the antioxidant capacity in plant foods, oils and beverages is presented, including extraction of antioxidants, measurement of antioxidant capacity, and expression of results.
Journal ArticleDOI
Wine, beer, alcohol and polyphenols on cardiovascular disease and cancer.
Sara Arranz,Gemma Chiva-Blanch,Palmira Valderas-Martinez,Alex Medina-Remón,Rosa M. Lamuela-Raventós,Ramon Estruch +5 more
TL;DR: This review summarizes the main protective effects on the cardiovascular system and cancer resulting from moderate wine and beer intake due mainly to their common components, alcohol and polyphenols.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of Wine, Alcohol and Polyphenols on Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factors: Evidences from Human Studies
Gemma Chiva-Blanch,Sara Arranz,Sara Arranz,Rosa M. Lamuela-Raventós,Rosa M. Lamuela-Raventós,Ramon Estruch,Ramon Estruch +6 more
TL;DR: Wine and beer (but especially red wine) seem to confer greater cardiovascular protection than spirits because of their polyphenolic content, however, caution should be taken when making recommendations related to alcohol consumption.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of grape antioxidant dietary fiber in cardiovascular disease risk factors.
Jara Pérez Jiménez,José C. E. Serrano,María Tabernero,Sara Arranz,M. Elena Díaz-Rubio,Luis García-Diz,Isabel Goñi,Fulgencio Saura-Calixto +7 more
TL;DR: Grape antioxidant dietary fiber showed significant reducing effects in lipid profile and blood pressure, which appear to be higher than the ones caused by other dietary fibers, such as oat fiber or psyllium, probably due to the combined effect of dietary fiber and antioxidants.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mireia Urpi-Sarda,Rosa Casas,Rosa Casas,Gemma Chiva-Blanch,Gemma Chiva-Blanch,Edwin Saúl Romero-Mamani,Edwin Saúl Romero-Mamani,Palmira Valderas-Martinez,Palmira Valderas-Martinez,Sara Arranz,Sara Arranz,Cristina Andres-Lacueva,Rafael Llorach,Alex Medina-Remón,Alex Medina-Remón,Rosa M. Lamuela-Raventós,Rosa M. Lamuela-Raventós,Ramon Estruch,Ramon Estruch +18 more
TL;DR: Med-Diet exerts an anti-inflammatory effect on cardiovascular system since it down-regulates cellular and circulating inflammatory biomarkers related to atherogenesis in subjects at high cardiovascular risk.
