A system and method for variable power transfer in an inductive charging or power system. In accordance with an embodiment the system comprises a pad or similar base unit that contains a primary, which creates an alternating magnetic field. A receiver comprises a means for receiving the energy from the alternating magnetic field from the pad and transferring it to a mobile device, battery, or other device. In accordance with various embodiments, additional features can be incorporated into the system to provide greater power transfer efficiency, and to allow the system to be easily modified for applications that have different power requirements. These include variations in the material used to manufacture the primary and/or the receiver coils; modified circuit designs to be used on the primary and/or receiver side; and additional circuits and components that perform specialized tasks, such as mobile device or battery identification, and automatic voltage or power-setting for different devices or batteries.

System and methods for inductive charging, and improvements and uses thereof

A portable modular solar battery charger of the lap top style is disclosed. The module includes two body members hingedly interconnected with each body member having a solar panel attached thereto. A circuit is provided for transferring the energy from the solar panels to a battery charger which, in turn, official charges a battery. The modular unit is interconnectable with additional similar modules by both a physical link and an electrical link.

A modular system of mating connector cables for connecting solar power sources to devices requiring power includes connector cables assembled from compatible cable segments, mating connectors and junctions. The cables of the system may be of consistent polarity among various configurations such that current flows through mating connectors at the cable ends. The cables may be variously configured to provide for the connection of solar power sources in series or in parallel, and for connection to devices with various power input connectors or terminals.

A solar panel (10) incorporating a selectively actuable energy availability indicator arrangement (16,18, 20). The arrangement includes a visual indicator (A8), such as an LED, and a selectively actuable button (22). Actuation of the button (22) completes a circuit to read the level of energy available. A resistor in series with the LED as it is connected to the terminals of the solar panel limits the current flow through the LED. A blocking diode connected in series with a charging battery prevents the LED from reading the charge of the battery.
