Social commerce constructs and consumer's intention to buy

Artificial intelligence (AI) was introduced to develop and create “thinking machines” that are capable of mimicking, learning, and replacing human intelligence. Since the late 1970s, AI has shown great promise in improving human decision-making processes and the subsequent productivity in various business endeavors due to its ability to recognise business patterns, learn business phenomena, seek information, and analyse data intelligently. Despite its widespread acceptance as a decision-aid tool, AI has seen limited application in supply chain management (SCM). To fully exploit the potential benefits of AI for SCM, this paper explores various sub-fields of AI that are most suitable for solving practical problems relevant to SCM. In so doing, this paper reviews the past record of success in AI applications to SCM and identifies the most fruitful areas of SCM in which to apply AI.

Artificial intelligence in supply chain management: theory and applications

Consumer trust is essential for a business to successfully promote new products and services. This paper develops a trust model from a social commerce perspective by investigating the influence of social commerce constructs on consumer trust in new products and services. By using an empirical study, the results of this research indicate that social commerce constructs could be measured using three dimensions; these are recommendations and referrals, ratings and reviews, and forums and communities. Furthermore, social commerce constructs have a significant positive influence on consumer trust in new products and service. Alternatively, social commerce constructs could generate social word of mouth among potential customers regarding new products and services; this in turn can shape consumer trust. The theoretical and practical implications of these results are discussed.

Developing multi-agent systems with a FIPA-compliant agent framework

This paper proposes a facilitator which finds capable and trustworthy partners on behalf of client users (agents), which helps agents form and maintain e-partnerships for electronic commerce. Unlike existing capability-based facilitators or matchmakers, the facilitator collects and maintains private “word-of-mouth” trust information as well as capabilities from each agent and uses the information for personalized trust-based facilitation for each agent, which is performed through the facilitation protocols and trust propagation mechanism. Compared to other existing trust mechanisms, the characteristics of trust which this facilitator handles are personalized-collaborative-subjective-qualitative-private. The facilitator is implemented as a JATLite multi-agent system and a FIPA-OS based multi-agent system, and is evaluated in terms of the complexity and characteristics. The example of usage is shown in the area of construction supply-chain coordination.

Trust-Based Facilitator: Handling Word-of-Mouth Trust for Agent-Based E-Commerce

There are many applications using communication between vehicles and systems on the fixed network in intelligent transportation systems (ITS). Although DSRC, wireless LAN, cellular phones, PHS, etc. can be used as communication media for vehicle-road communication, since characteristics, such as communicative area, transmission speed, communication cost, differ. The applications using vehicle-road communication need to have a function that selects one of these communication media by a certain standard. Moreover, the application also needs to have a reliable communication function, which sends a message only when the communication channel is available, since it is assumed that intermittence of a communication channel takes place frequently owing to the spot communication environment of DSRC and wireless LAN. To improve the development efficiency of applications in the DSRC network, so far, we have proposed middleware with a message delegation system that realizes reliable message delivery based on the information of the network status of the DSRC network. We describe implementation of the middleware and show the results of the middleware through evaluation.

The present invention comprising a push type information interface for inputting push type information provided from a push type information distribution medium, a pull type information interface for inputting pull type information and summaries of the pull type information from a pull type information distribution medium, summary extraction means for extracting summaries from said respective inputted push type information, summary storage means for storing said extracted summaries, search condition input means for inputting search conditions, summary download means for downloading summaries of pull type information satisfying said search conditions through said pull type information interface, the summaries described in said predetermined common format, summary search means for searching summaries satisfying said search conditions from the summaries registered in said summary storage means, and summary list display means for displaying a list of said searched summaries and the summaries satisfying said search conditions and downloaded from the pull type information distribution medium.
